I really need some help. I have a 2007 gxp with stock 5.3 liter engine. It sat for a week due to a flat tire. I went to start it and it was dead. Figured the battery was dead. Wouldn't turn over. So I Took the starter out tested it, was bad. Replaced the starter still wouldn't turn over. The starter relay started making lots of sounds, so I replaced it. Still nothing. The battery is fine, new starter and starter relay. I have tested all the relays and fuses they are fine. Now sometimes I have power and when I turn the key it dies and I lose all power. I have no clue what is happening. Need help I can't afford to have it towed to a shop and worked on.

iirc you guys have one f ed up ground block off the battery on the strut tower, make sure its all solid and working right. take all terminals off and clean them with a wire brush too.

iirc you guys got some voltage regulator or something in the pos cable. this is on the 3800 04 up cars, not 100% sure on the v8. but its worth looking into.

search highoctaneracing name. he had to change the cable for some reason or another.

How old is the battery? It may show correct volts but not pass a load test. The sensor Scottydoggs is on the negative terminal, and a pain to replace.

I've got an 04, but I've never seen that sensor. I'll look again, but I'm pretty sure I do not have it. Then again, I have the plug for the external range pnp switch sitting on top of my trans, but my 04 has an internal pnp range switch... lol silly GM.

deff have that battery load tested, twice. I've had this prob twice now in my GXP. All in total I ended up having to replace the Alt, Battery & Voltage meter. Don't forget to check your connections and cables.

That hood looks nice with the side intakes too.

As for the battery, I have had issues with those red top Optimas and the Les Schwab versions of them. They get hot under the hood and the cell closest to the coil packs and belt has melted. Thought it was a one time thing, should have taken pictures of the batteries. I had checked all cables, connectors and cleaned everything. Plastic in the battery cell just melted in the same spot and acid gel would leak out.

Glad you got your car going again, nice ride.

Battery current sensor. it is a replaceable part as the 08 models got updated ones I believe. Requires cutting cable to get it one there . or replacing the entire cable. Should be able to be tested . its a sensor.

This is for an 08, may be different for yours. One is for 5V, and one is for 10v. May not be your problem, just a thought.

Just google the problem, something will come up as to what to look for. Good luck

Okay update. I cleaned and tested every single ground I could find. The power no longer drops out when I try to start the car. The dashboard display is reading 15.54 volts but still the car will not turn over. Took the battery out tonight and am going to have it tested tomorrow. Does anyone know how to test the voltage current sensor. If not I'll just look it up. Thanks for everyone's help.

Also that sensor is not part of the cable. It's very easy to remove.

Your cables were all good? No corrosion?

There was a little on the positive cable before the connector but I cut the wire back to where is was corrosion free and reconnected it.
