the texture looks odd. it doesn't look smooth like mine , plus mine is multicolored from the heat and it's only been on for 2 months... maybe it's just the pic.

I talked to him early on. He had it heat wrapped. The texturing from the heat wrap transferred into the stainless finish on the plog

IDK man. I work with aluminum all day and that looks wirebrushed.

Maybe a pic in the daylight or a different angle and I'll know for sure.

Tried to tell him that and then he asked me to prove it to him. Definitely wrapped. I can't post the pic he sent me because it exceeds quota. Could be wire brushed as well though.

its been beat up with a wire brush alright, but that is sst for sure. The big problem is that by using a wire brush on it, it's now embedded with carbon steel and will rust. I'm still a little interested in it since it is stainless, and I work with a lot of it.

Would the fact that it was wrapped .. despite zzp's warning it may promote cracking... have compromised the future integrity of the steal / welds ?

if it is warped then it's going to be a PITA to seal. If it's still flat across the surface then it should be good to go. As far as future integrity of the welds, it depends and could just be the welders fault but you never know. I do know if it's cracked or cracks I can fix it.

i shouldn't poke fun, i haven't touched a welder in about 20 years so i doubt mine would look any better. i used to weld / repair / paint / cut up dumpsters for a garbage company

Yeah, stainless is a totally different animal. I used to be the welder for our company and SST is my specialty.
