I'm replacing my water pump today with an A1 Cardone reman pump. The pump came with a felt gasket. Do I want to install this dry, or should I pick up some sealant? If so, what kind should I go for?

I also need to pick up some Permatex Blue for the bolts that go into the water jacket (Loctite Blue is hard to find in Canada apparently). I can't use the Permatex Blue on the gakset, right?

    Install dry.

On the sealant for the bolts. Any teflon based paste works well. I have a large container from Home Depot in teh plumbing aisle. It's a teflon based sealant that you want. It seals better and stays goopier than RTV. RTV should work though.

Those look kinda heavy duty. I was thinking like this.

Although any should work. You just want something with some ptfe/teflon in it.

Picked up a tube of Oatey Pipe Joint Compound with PTFE and coated the threads. Didn't take too long, though it was getting dicey with the thunderstorms :-)

The biggest pain was getting the power steering pump re-mounted, until I pushed the fuse block out of the way and got a better viewing angle.

When I started up the car after putting the belt back on it sounded a bit clicky, but after letting it run that seems to have disappeared. I think it might have been some excess moisture on the pulleys.

Probably. On the pump I leave the bolts in it. Then I have the lower one flush with the back of the pump and push the top one all the way in with a deep 13 on it. Locate that one and wiggle the pump a touch to start the bottom. Presto it sure seems like a cake walk. Maybe it's the 500 that I've done though?
