That's good news.....You have the actual trunk lid, so as far as I'm concerned, if it's good enough for you that it must be great!!!! We'll be waiting!!!

Here's one for Jose aka "rojo grandprix"...
Still know kind of illumination though huh?I would be so interested in buying a mat if you could solve the problem about lack of light reflecting of the felt. Post some pictures!
It's still on the back burner and I'm not giving up on it, just have to to sit down and play with them a little bit. Also have another option I'm looking at doing this week for the 04+ guys now that I have a trunk lid to work with. I'm also going to stop by a friends place and look at his LED strip setups they do for stereo installations, etc... I'll see how that pans out....
Palsut (Patrick) from GPONA and ClubGP was kind enough to post some pics of his lid. I was pretty happy with the way this one came out. The lettering is done in a silver to match the interior of his car.
So who on here would want a black lid with shocking pink lettering??
soooooo any idea when you might be able to swing one for an 08 GXP? Kinda diggin these...awesome work from what I see.
Actually, I'm pulling the 04 trunk lid out tonight and going to see what I'm going to get myself into. The only thing I'm going to not like is that the lid is going to be thick - because of the wiring harness coming down the angled brace. I'm trying to do this as an easy replacement to what is there and not force anyone to move anything. When I say thick - something along the lines of an inch...
Had a few people asking about a trunk lid mat for an 04+ GP, found a damaged trunk lid and figured I'd give it a try, it's thick to clear the bracing and harness, but pretty much drops in, was thinking magnets might work to secure it.
Here's a couple of pics.
Side shots
For this to work, you will have to remove two clips and tape the harness kinda off the side, the clips held the lid just too far up, has no effect on the harness.
Backside of lid, I had to put 2 holes in the bottom piece because of the studs for the screw pieces for the old mat. Around the perimeter pieces are 1.5 inches.
This just shows how it follows the contour of the trunk lid.
Just showing the height of the mat, I would say any recessed lettering or whatever will max out at about 8" in height. Sucker is long though.
So I'm up for suggestions, concerns etc, as it is, it literally sits on the trunk lid. Of course, when I make one, there won't be tape all over, etc... So anybody care to be a guinea pig if you think it's at the point when we can make one???
Looks like you are getting there....Gps are closing up nicely sine I saw some pics...You mentioned magnets, it does sound like a different idea. So you're saying there will be no screws used what so ever holding this to the lid itself?? And I'm not sure what you meant by 8" max..
Rick, the general consensus amongest those offering opinions was they would prefer not to drill. The 97-03's have a slight curve when mounted so not much choice, these are pretty much straight. So I "think" magnets, velcro would definatley be enough to secure it.
The 8" - 9" inches is the max height I can do with the lettering size or whatever someone wants on the mat.
of course! i wonder if that would secure the mats on the 97-03 gps? instead of having to drillwas thinking magnets might work to secure it.
For those 04+ plus owners interested in a mat, I found out some information. The material that is used to cover the existing trunk lid mat (from what I was told) comes from Europe.
I looked up a process called "flocking", it's a process where they spray a fabric on an surface (kinda like the liner of a jewelry box), comes in different colors and courseness. I called the company up and spoke with the owner, after describing what I was doing, he found a GP to look at existing lid.
He's saying he can come close to duplicating the color/texture of the original mat using his process, the flocking powder is called "salt & pepper", his opinion is he can make them look nicer than they did from the factory. Price wise including shipping to do this would probably be around $30 a lid, there is also a "setup" fee each time this is done of $35, so if a few were sent out at one time that could be spread out. 2 weeks turn around time.
This is just an option for those that don't want a different color/texture between what came stock and the trunkliner material options I'm using for the 97-03's.
So let me "flocking" know what ya think Sorry, couldn't resist...
Lets be honest, the 04+ owners are simply SOL, so lets focus our attention to those who still have hope at getting a sweet mat from you. Simply wondering how the whole illumination thing was working out, as soon as a viable solution is discovered i will be al over it! Let me know!
SOL??? who's that!!! Let the man figure something out for us 04+ guy and take a chill pill on illumination thing....
Keith....I' still trying to figure out what should be done for a design!!! But my thought is "FLOCK" the flocking and just do what you have already done for the guys already!!! What you PM's me on the OTHER site sounds pretty good to me but maybe even toss in a arrow? I'll get back to ya soon!!
Thought I had this one sold, but didn't happen, so if ya like it - let me know. Just finished it up a few minutes ago.
