2000 GT Multiple Problems
No problems except a minor whine when turning and Check engine light on, scan shows MAF. Then Friday on QEW at 120K temp started to climb then came back down to a little below normal and this continued. At 100K all was normal. Topped off coolant and problem seemed solved but still minor temp variations intermittently, all else normal. Thermostat replaced 18 months ago.
Yesterday everything seemed normal then when car left to idle for a period of time it stalled. Would not start without pushing accelerator down and went to about 1600 RPM at idle. Started to drive and transmission seemed to be slipping and not changing gears normally. Engine was running at 3000 RPM AT 80 K. During acceleration engine would hesitate then accelerate as though the computer didn't know how much fuel to give engine. There was a substantial power loss and all through acceleration. Engine would bog down then a burst of power. This was from 0 to 130 K. No power to speak of. Temperature was normal. Pulled into driveway and some pretty nasty stuff was coming out of exhaust, smokey with a very rich smell. Opened hood and something was glowing red and my son says he saw small flames below manifold. I saw no flame but It very well could have been there. Electric fan was not turning.
This all occurred at the same time leading me to believe some sensor has gone wacko and developed all these symptoms.
Mileage on highway showed approx 9 mpg while driving car home. I don't think tranny or torque converter are bad as when she does go there is no slipping. I'm at a total loss, any ideas, advice? Plan to have it scanned and see what it shows. Lots of fun.
Update
Started cold this morning ran OK for short period. Fan working normally. Had white smoke coming fr0m exhaust for short time then cleared but smelled rich. Had checked Rad and found level right up to top. Inside of exhaust black. Took for drive all problems above still there. Disconected MAF and it seemed better at 1st. Accelerated to 80 it shifted to second then 3rd but hung in 3rd bogging down ocaisionally. Parked and idle running 3000 to 3500 RPM. Shut off and it would not start unless accelerator pushed. Something is messing up the computer. Any idea's , suggestions?
