Thread: 02 GTP Track capable mods?

Hey whats up guys I'm new to the forum and new to the car scene (still in high school), I recently bought a fairly new 02 GTP coupe w/ 70k miles. I've been talking to ZZP and I know these things can be made fast and made fast for cheap in a straight line but I had something different in mind. I'd like it to take turns and I want a stock Integra Type R as a benchmark (around a track). What I had in mind was cheap lowering springs (1.2" drop) coupled w/ adjustable AGX struts and a rear sway bar. I am working with a high school budget and I do live in an area where winter hits hard so I can't do anything crazy (no slamming). Anyway is it even possible to make these things capable or should I just focus on going straight? Thanks you all

3400's not too bad? The new Zo6 (now don't flame me comparing hamsters to lions) weighs what? 3528? I understand it is a nose heavy fwd but yeah I do want it to handle well, I'd really appreciate it to be more fun than powerful. Last thing I want is for it to become unreliable so I'm hesitant with engine mods like PCM mods and etc.

BIG sway bars front and rear, lowering springs with a drop of atleast 1.5in or so(most springs that claim 1.5-1.7 only go down to 1.3-1.5 max, so you are good there) and tires. Tires need to be good and going slightly wider would help.

It should handle pretty good after those are done, and you'd likely be okay and happy with it but just remember it's still a 3400 lbs car.

Should I go ahead with the struts as well? How far can I push it? Will I ever be able to tie my benchmark car?

I'd just go with a KYB strut over the AGX just because of price and the fact that they can be a worse ride and they don't seem to last very long. But thats just from what I hear and see from people I know that had them.

Should I go with the KYB Excel G struts then? With lowering springs? Should I go with just the rear sway bar or do both front and rear? What type of tires do you suggest for proper balance of performance but also longevity? (again this is a daily driver), comfort is less of a priority than reliability here and performance is right behind reliability and ahead of comfort.

Awesome, again I'm not trying to make a 12 second car I want something that's fun and handles well. The car's plenty quick stock but I do plan on doing ZZP's stage one later on. But for right now I'd like to focus on handling, what type of tires do you recommend?

Also not to change subjects, but those zzp stage kits are a joke and a waste of money. The way they tell people to mod their cars is wrong and the info on the site is out-dated. Alot better ways to mod the engine and safer ways.

Thanks for the info, again I am very very new to modding, I am technically on my 3rd car (this time did it right via a legit dealer) but it's as good as my first. So I'm very new to this stuff and I found ZZP and contacted them and they said stage 1 kit for soft mod. Do you mind PMing me suggestion on safe engine mod that can reach say 270-280 crank hp/250-260 whp? While staying on that subject I see what I should get is
-Stiff front/rear sway bars
-BMR Trailing arms
-Excel G-struts and since I can't rly find WBS springs maybe SSC lowering springs?
-CS4 tires
Anything I missed or anything else you guys suggest?

They make 240 crank but after drivetrain loss it's right at 200, I made 202 on the dyno stock. Figure if you did like a 3in downpipe with a plog or downpipe/rockers or something you'd gain a few hp to make it breath better and be safer. And always run 91+ octane fuel. Most guys with 3.4 pulley setups only see about 25-35hp increase with roughly the same amount of torque and torque is what makes these things move out good.

KYB GR2 are the same as excel g's now, I think. I got the GR2's from rockauto.

If going budget here still, the new dorman trailing arms are solid bars now and are far better than the stock stamped steel. I would choose those over the BMR just to save the cash and in my eyes they can't be any better, such a simple design and all you need is a solid bar and the dorman has it.

SSC springs are what I run and so do many others. Canuck Motorsports sell these springs and if you called SSC they will tell you they get them from CM. It's cheaper to buy straight from CM, I paid something like $179 and they came straight from canada.

You could go with coopers and I just gave an option, explore other tires if you want.

As for tires I would look into continental extreme contact DWS. I have then on mine and live in Michigan and they did great in the snow and grip the road well in the summertime

hm I can't seem to find any 225/60/16 extremecontacts, I rly want those tires but do you have stock rims or different size?

If you make no power and never want to be able to hook off the line, sure.

Otherwise, look into real summer tires like PSS, RS3, Star Specs, Sport Comp 2s etc.

If you want to compete, A6s.

I do like the front sway bar but would it be a problem if I were to install downpipes in the future? How much of a problem would it be?
