I have a 2000 GTP, after 99 didnt all have magnasteer or the variable assist option. I could get the vin if would help. The top steel line on the rack developed a hole (I want to say its for the right turn but may be the left). After speaking with a few shops that were going to charge me just as much as replacing the whole rack because they would have to remove it to repair it I decided if I am going to get charged for the rack I might as well replace it since its 13 years old anyways. The entire reservoir would be depleted in a matter of 2 days and 95% of my driving is simply straight expressway driving. May make 10 turns going to work and not even slow speed 90 degree ones.
Anyways the OE rack is 26079912 but was going to replace it with the Delco 36-16499. I have not been driving it like this the past 6 months but have driven more than I should have trying to save some money to get everything fixed. In your opinion would you replace anything besides the rack? I was thinking with the pump running so low sometimes and completely out more than once I would grab one of them too. The inner tie rods come with the rack so I was thinking maybe replacing the outer tie rods but not the idler arm or anything. There is no squeal from the pump and I dont actually have any low speed turns reaping havoc for the lil bit I do drive this car.
Any words or wisdom please let me know. I will be taking it to a friends house to knock it out this weekend.
Thanks in advance
