Thread: Vibration in passenger front

Alright to start this is a 2000 GP GT N/A, I recently had to replace both front rotors (they were toast), it solved the vibration I was getting while braking in the driver side front wheel but the vibration has persisted in the passenger front. Now what I find odd is the vibration isn't always there it seems to come and go from day to day, this issue also presents itself throughout driving ranges and what I mean by that is the vibration is there while braking or not at all speeds, it almost feels as though the passenger side tire is ready to fly off but as far as I can tell the hub is still good, the tire is balanced, and the lugs are not loose. Another thing worth noting is at low speeds when braking I can feel the brakes grab and give a little then grab again. The vibration/sound I hear while driving w/o braking is similar to that of a blown tire smacking the ground if that helps. I am not entirely sure this factors in at all but my upper motor mount bushings are in need of replacement, you can move the upper motor mounts with your hand granted it isn't a large degree of motion but enough to visible see it. Lastly the brakes were still in good condition though someone brought up that they may have crystallized. I hope you all can help me narrow this down, I am not too familiar with brake systems. Thanks in advance for any feedback you all may be able to provide.

Might want to check the axle on that side. They are known to cause vibrations as well when they start to go bad. If it turns out to be this, get the Napa Gold one. The others are typically junk and will wear out in 6-8 months it seems. Lifetime warranty or not, how often do you want to change axles because you saved a few $$ on the Autozone one?

Typically if the axle is the problem the vibration will be much worse on acceleration. If it changes drastically on acceleration I would replaced the right axle.

Also, the brakes grabbing and letting go over and over may be the result of the old rotors. Were they warped at all? If they were and you didn't replace the pads it's quite possible that the pads aren't completely flat now. When I replace rotors I always replace the pads as well. If the rotors were damaged to the point of needing replacement, then the pads most likely are to.

Besides, what's another $30 to put new pads on the front and have piece of mind that when you stomp on the brakes they will actually work as needed? Sometimes the only thing between me and a new front end is my brakes, ya know?

The outer tie rods are also very common to wear out. This will not cause a vibration, but will allow a little vibration to become a bad vibration.

That's one of the odd things Tech, from what I can tell acceleration seems to dampen the vibration and the moment I let off the pedal it is more noticeable. And Fordman, the old rotors were just wore down to the point where they just couldn't be turned anymore, and the reason I didn't replace my brakes was b/c the pads still have a long way to go before they need to be replaced and I was hoping to upgrade to ceramics which as I am sure you all know are around $80 for just the front. To build off what coolone said, something I have noticed is when I park on any incline and release the brake the car has it's usual roll back till the transmission catches it, but when it catches the car bounces back a lot and you can actually feel the engine being rocked back and forth, this is nearly any incline greater than maybe 10-15 degrees, it honestly feels like it's gonna break the motor mounts. With that said could this simply be the upper mounts causing it or could it actually be the lower mounts/tranny mount. The thing that really boggles my mind is this vibration comes and goes, early in the morning and and late at night seem to be the two most frequent parts of the day that it happens, I commute 66 miles round trip for work and Saturday it never vibrated once even while reaching speeds of 85-90 mph, the next day its starts vibrating soon as I hit about 40 mph. I honestly never even thought to check the tie rods, but thinking about it that seems possible, the car seems to b in near perfect alignment but when the vibration begins it def pulls to the right I wanna kick myself for not thinking about that. I will check them immediately and get back to you all asap, any more suggestions are greatly appreciated and thank all of you who have offered input so far.

So far I have run about 60 miles or so and the god aweful vibration/wobble is gone, still have a little bit in the brake pedal but that should even out when the pads wear a lil more. Thanks everyone
