got a pair of f-body caliper brackets shipped to me from a salvage yard. I open the box to check there were two of them and took them to a friend to get them drill and tapped for 14*2 hardware. Sooooo after I get them home I fit them up to the C5 calipers I got and noticed that one of the slide pins is frozen solid (other 3 are just fine). I'm thinking that one of the brackets is junk because of that frozen pin.

So far I've soaked it in PB for a few short minutes and tried to use the caliper bolt to break it loose but it didn't budge. I hit the pin with a torch and soaked it again with PB and figure I'll let it sit overnight to see what I've got. I'm thinking even if I do get the pin out of the sleeve the sleeve will pretty much be toast?

I'm pretty bummed and left for hoping for the best but thot I'd ask here if anyone's ever saved a bracket with a stuck pin and what they did to do it. It sucks I got my buddy to waste his time on it too --- but he'll get his laughs when I come in with one bracket and a story about me not checking them before he worked on them --- I hope.

anyway, thanks in advance for any suggestions.

They just need to be rebuilt with new hardware. Go to Auto Parts Fast at RockAuto and order 2 caliper rebuild kits for the car the calipers came off of. Might as well get new piston seals as well.

you r using the heat on the bolt?
heat makes metal expand, use the torch on the braket. while its hot you should be able to pull the pin out.

man, I know this thing should come out but after a couple of more serious attempts (heat on the bracket <grin>) it ain't moved. I figured I'll give it one more real serious try tomorrow and see if I can do it since I don't like things like this 'winning'.

The great news is that the salvage yard is sending a replacement so that's very kewl. Of course going to ask my pal to drill and tap another one because I wasn't paying attention is going to suck, but wth.

I got fbody banjo bolts from the boneyard today ($2) and noticed that the bleeders in the calipers looked new. Popped them out to find speed bleeders looking back ($0).

    thanks all for the input.

that got it --- if you add the week of it sitting in the vice with PB blaster on the pin.

Got home from work 2nite kind of wound up and took a shot at it. After a real good heating I got it with grips and after a tap with the 3lb I was able to rock it out of there. I cleaned it up a very little and was surprised how nice the pin felt. I took some emery cloth and knocked what was left of the rust off. Gunna let the bore sit overnight with PB blaster in it and then clean it out one last time.

    thanks again to all.
