I have a 97 GTP and the Check Tire Pressure and ABS lights used to randomly both turn on at the same time then turn off every now and then for a few days. Now, whenever the car is running they're both on and I'm wondering what I should do to fix this.

Sounds like you either have a break in a ABS speed sensor wire (likely one or both of the front wheels) or a bad hub. It is common to get an ABS light when the hub starts to fail. Start by jacking one side up at a time and push/pull at 12 and 6 o'clock on the tire with it still tight on the hub. If you get any play then that hub bearing is going bad. Typical replacements are SKF, Timkin, or some use Napa.

Also check the ABS connector that is behind the tire. It may have a broken wire and was making intermittent connection until it finally just gave up. I went through this on my 00 GT and found that the wires were bad from about 2" behind the plug to about 15" back into the harness. Cut and spliced in new wires and no more ABS light. A multi-meter helped me find this one after much searching.

The symptoms are also the same for a bad ebcm. Get it scanned for abs codes.

I had read a thread about the ebcm, and actually it also does have stiffening in the power steering after the lights come on-never really noticed it until now. Is there anyway I can have this tested/fixed without spending a ridiculous amount?

If you can live without those features the easy/ cheap way is to cover up the light with electrical tape. Thats what I did with mine because it was just a wire to a hub that was broke and I didn't feel that the hub truely needed replacing yet anyway.

if you cant find anything wrong doing the free tests , then have it scanned at a shop, or buy a cheap hand held abs scanner.

you can toss money at it, but its best to spend a little extra to pin point the problem.
