Bushing are easy to swap out. Lower the sub enough to get them out, put new in. Bolt back together. Best suggestion is to have 4 jackstands on hand. Two for the body of the car and then two along with the jack that you are lowering the subframe with. That way you aren't relying only on that jack while you are underneath. Safety first!

Yeah, back in January I had my car on the lift and dropped the FWD subframe for some reason, cant remember....but now that im thinking about it i couldve did the oil pan and bushings then...DUH stupid me......but i do remember the driver side fwd mount/bushing covered in oil which i believe came from the oil pan....but im pretty sure that moisture contributed to the premature damage of that mount.

Yeah subframe mounts usually dont go bad, but being saturated with oil could speed that process up....with my mount it did anyway. But on the bright side, the car should have a more solid acceleration feel to it opposed to feeling/hearing those lil popping noises.....

I've done mounts before. The ones on my Bonneville were shot, old, dry rotting you name it. Swapping them out was a huge difference.

How the eff can you get oil on the forward position subframe mount that is up along side the radiator?

The fwd subframe mount is not near the radiator....its right under the drivers seat....and i think it was power steering fluid from a leak i had from the RACK seal...

fwd means foward right? If you talk to someone on a car and they say "right side" That is the car's right as if the headlights are eyeballs. When you say front of the car..it's the cars front, aka eyeballs. Therefore when you said forward mount on the driverside, I read front left mount. If you meant fwd to mean anything else.. please fill me in, cause front wheel drive doesn't make sense to the topic and foward would be front.

And no, it's not even close to being under the driver seat... It's at the edge where the firewall turns off into the floor pan

the motor mounts just wear out over time. if you have 168k on your car and the originals are in there, i'm sure they are worn out. i did mine at ~60K and the motor mount was extremely worn. the mounts are hydraulic, meaning they actually have fluid inside them to dampen vibrations. in extreme cases, they will have bursted and the fluid leaked out. a visual inspection will show you, or you can take a pry bar to it and see if there is play; or, you can just try rocking the motor. if the mounts are shot your engine will rock excessively. i went with the poly engine mount from zzp and the heavy duty trans mount from intense. this resolved my clunking issues.

Ok, guys its not science. Under the driver seat, near the firewall, whatever....U guys know what im referring to.....its four corners, so if i said fwd driver side, then that could only mean one thing....common sense

And Bill, no offense, but I cant help which way u look at the car...fwd is fwd and rear is rear....driver side is driver side and passenger side is passenger side.....no need to say right or left if im saying driver or passenger side....

Anyway, LOL...enough of that...no hard feelings, just a lil misunderstanding....but yeah, those subframe mounts could be a problem....most people go changing almost everything else not knowing it was the subframe bushings the entire time. They can be tricky sometimes to point out....

Dee...no offense taken. Car manufacturers, parts places, parts manufacturers, mechanics and most everyone else in the world will refer to it the way I did. I learned that way....from the standards that were in place long before I was born. If you wanna come up with a new system and implement it.. kudos. When it catches on, I'll use it.

Til then... the front of the car..is the part where the front bumper is located and the rear is where the rear bumper is located. Odd....how they named things that way?

LOL.. I'm busting your chops newbie. It's ok..most of us made the same mistakes until we learned about it. It's natural to refer to something in front of you as foward or front.

I mean i did say FORWARD (as in the difference from the rear mounts). My bad if i did say FRONT(like u said, that would be the front bumper). Now im thinking, maybe u guys just didnt know what i was referring to. Thats totally my fault, i should have been more elaborate. WE good though, now im just dealing with this NO START issue. problems...problems......problems......they never stop with these cars

Those are engine mounts, i was talking about SUBFRAME/CRADLE bushings/mounts....

Well ya see Dee..there are forwward and rear subframe positions on the front subframe. LOL... I was born to bust balls..

Actually..it sounds like your problem is stopped...lol

update: after i finally had finished this makeover not to along, i have to admit to you guys that it did make a nice feeling difference. feels to have better power to the wheels, but overall im glad i did it and remember that everything works so much better when things are tight, torqued and in place. Mounts may look ok, but never doubt what it may look like inside(you would definately feel it though if something was really wrong) ok, later....

Where did you end up getting your bushings?

I bought mine off amazon, I think that was the cheapest place I found them at the time
