I have a '97 GT and my rear brakes are pretty bad. I had planned on replacing the rotors and pads. What should I look for on the calipers if they need to be replaced/serviced?
I see the caliper rebuild kits ($6) is this always a good idea to do when doing brake work? What does it entail?
I'm looking at the parts lists and need to make decisions. I don't feel that I need to upgrade anything. I don't race my car, I just go from home to work and back. I was going to pick up the Raybaestos Rotors. What about the pads? Ceramic? Organic? Semi-Metalic? What should I do? I've heard the pads need to be properly matched to the rotors. I don't want a ton of dust and no noise. Advice is appreciated.
How about tips for the overall job?
I imagine the job goes something like this:
1. Jack up car, put on jack stands.
2. Remove wheels.
3. Remove caliper.
4. Remove rotor.
5. Clean existing surfaces and the new rotor
6. Install rotor
7. Clamp caliper to install new clips/pad
8. lube moving parts/rubbing surfaces
9. Reinstall caliper
10. Put wheel on
11. Lower car and go for a spin
Do I have to worry about the master cylinder over-flowing? What do I do about that?
