My bar is still straight if you can see it...
I'm not debating either way because I have no idea, but this photo doesn't show the wreck near the point that the hood is going to go through the windshield. The core support doesn't seem to be hit in this case, so the braces wouldn't have been able to buckle as mentioned to cause the hood to push up. Just observing, though, as I said. It matters not, to me, what they're for.

The core support was bent in two. I would know.... also the point of the picture was to show that the diag brace was still straight and the hood was bent. And also that the hood was still attached. When i went to get my performance parts, i had to cut the cable and take the hood latch off to get the hood to release.

Then I realized that with my slightly modded front mount that I had less movement than a fully poly'd engine. No thanks..no need for that upper get in the way mounting system.

Just for sake of argument, whats preventing the braces from bending downward in a collision?

Bonnevilles have their motor mounts down low. Here's a vid of a buddy rocking my car. Notice how little movement there is in the bay

Here's teh overall shot of the bay

And how is the hood just gonna slide back and cut a head off? Its locked with the latch in the front and out of all the folded hoods and front end wrecks I've seen of these and many other cars I've never seen a hinge shear the pivot pin.

Exactly...the hoods will bend upwards even if these crossbraces do not . They do serve a purpose as to help stiffen the front end

The hood is going to crumple and bend without the braces since its mounted via the hinges and the release. Its not going to push straight back unless its a seriously freak accident.
