I cannot figure this out. I haven't had a chance to get the car off the ground yet though. It's a 2005 Comp G.

My driveway is kinda bumpy. Idle speed. And it sounds like someone is in my trunk banging stuff. It also happens when I brake. Mostly because the rotors are a little warped. But, the vibration from that causes this rattle to happen too.

Today I grabbed the wheel and then the spring and shook the car side to side. The sound happens too. I can't figure out where it's coming from.

It started a few months ago, and has slowly become louder and a lot easier to reproduce.

Sounds like your struts are loose or bad.

there should be no play in the struts, if so you found it already, could be the mounts at the top, pop the hood start the car and crank the steering wheel back and fourth, if there is a lot of movement where the struts bolt in thats it.

to change the strut mounts you need to take them apart, spring compressor and all that good sh!t, no fun, i bought new mounts for my car, took out the struts and had a shop change them for me, 30 bucks and 30 minutes and i was on my way. its a 5 bolt job per side, real easy to remove.

This is in the rear. But, I assume the process would be the same. Thanks for the info.

same idea minus the turning the steering wheel lol still a 5 bolt job tho. they might have just come lose, try to tighten them up first.

the fronts are usually the ones to go, they take the most abuse.

It's the rear strut mounts. Mine are doing it. I will be replacing them soon.

Yeah. no way I'm spending the cash on a complete strut/spring/mount.

Anyone know the best place to get the mounts?

amazon has the quick struts for $112. and free shipping. And Monroe has a rebate going on where you buy 3 struts, you get the fourth free.

    Using Your Discount Code
Enter the code above in the "How did you hear about us" line of the shopping cart. If you are using our traditional HTML catalog, please click the "Apply" button to the right of the field. Your discount will automatically appear, subtracted from your order total.

Please note: We sometimes get calls from people who put the word "discount" in front of their code and do not get the discount. Please enter ONLY the discount code, no other words or numbers.

The discount takes 5% off our already-low prices. There's no limit on order size or the number of orders. Use the code for your next order, and share the code with friends, neighbors, relatives, the guy at the corner garage--anyone you know who works on cars or trucks.

    Update!!!

Turns out it was the trailing arm. The bolt had come loose. Apparently very loose. It was almost out. I took it too a guy in town. He did it no charged. Went to school with his son. Now, the car is in tip top shape. yay!
