Whenever I brake I hear a Grinding noise coming from the passenger side wheel.
I jacked up the car and pulled the front wheel. The rotor and pad are good. There are shavings sitting on top of the bracket holding the rotor. The passenger wheel has more play in it than the drivers wheel. There are no rips or tears in the CV covers and no oil or grease stains around them.
Any ideas what I should start looking for the cause.
Car is a 2000 Pontiac GTP with 250,000 Kilometers on it.

The wheels should not have play in them.

your pads are probably toast, ive had the grinding noise in mine also, the inner pad was garbage cause nothing of the pad was left. but it could be also wheel bearing.

Either the pads are gone, or you have a bad wheel bearing. I would replace them with ceramics for sure.

Hi I am new here but i have the same problem. My ABS and service trac lights also come on . We have replaced BOTH wheel bearings and still have the prob. My brakes also arent as good as they should be when this happens.
ANY SUGGESTIONS ????

A bad speed sensor on one of the rear wheel bearings will cause the same problem with your ABS and trac lights. Fortunately, my mechanic will scan things for me without charging me so I found out my rear right speed sensor was bad on my last GP.Originally Posted by tnbmitchell

Just a update on my grinding noise problem
I took it into the dealership to have the problem analyzed.
They discovered that the wheel bearing was bad also the rear pad of the front brake on the passenger side was gone and this had scored the rotor. The front part of the pad was still good.
I had both sides of the wheel bearing replaced as well as the pads and rotors. The cost on this was parts $ 607 Labor $415.00 and with taxes and misc the total was $1300.

Gotta love the stealership!! $400 dollars in parts and a few hours labor for $1300.
Timken wheel bearings: $100 each
Good rotors and pads: $200
Find a good mechanic around you somewhere and skip the dealer if you can.

i had the same thing, but just my pads were pooched, and my e-brake cables were garbage, $300 in parts, no labour cost

jesus christ on a cracker batman! thats ridiculous. i changed both front bearings, and brakes and rotors, on my 97 gp, and i paid like 350 total! but the 20% off i get from advance helps too
