I have recently purchased an 04' GP Comp-G. It has close to 70K miles on it. I have read the other threads concerning the ABS systems and wheel hub replacement.
Here is what I am experiencing.
After pulling out of my garage or a parking space in reverse, I put the car into drive and there is a low "groaning" sound coming from what sounds like the front drivers side. The sound lasts for only about a second then everything is fine.
I have also been experiencing intermitent ABS, TCS, Steering alarms, but only after driving for more than about 45 min.

    What is going on?
Is the ABS system engaged in reverse?
Do you think the "groaning" sound is the ABS system engaging?
Do I need to replace the wheel hub/sensor assembly?

Please tell me this isn't going to cost me an arm and a leg!
    Thanks!

Well my Grand Prix does that low groaning you speak of as well and after replacing both front wheel bearings it still does it and I have come to the conclusion it is the ABS system running a self test.

Now the ABS, TCS indications I would attribute to a wheel bearing. Im not sure what the Steering alarm is. Determining if or which wheel bearing is going bad will require someone that can hook up a tool to read ABS systems.

    Hope this helps out some.

Mine does the same "groaning" things that you mention. And I am glad to hear mine is not the only one. And if I am on the brakes just a little bit when it does it, I can feel it in the pedal as well. It has always been there, so I figured it must be the ABS setting itself or something. I never worried about it.

And I agree with Scotty about the ABS and TCS indicators being the sign of a bad wheel bearing, wheel speed sensor, or attached wiring. Someone with a scanner that can scan wheel speeds should be able to help you out and find the problem.

    Thanks guys,
I'll try to find someone with a scanner that reads ABS codes.
What can I expect to pay for a hub assembly?
I have seen them on ebay for around $100.
    Here's a link to one.
    Should I get that one?
If not, where should I look. Remember, I'm on a tight budget.

    Thanks again for the help.

I think you would be better off going to Ed Morad (Morad Parts Company), a used parts dealer that specializes in our engines and cars. The problem with some of the cheaper wheel bearings is that you get what you pay for. OEM bearings, in your case, would be better as Im sure you can get them fairly low mileage and inexpensively from Ed.

I have a cheaper wheel bearing on my car, but the first one I bought failed within days. The second one has been good, but if I had had the money at the time I would have bought a Timken bearing or OEM.

But for the sake of your budget look up Ed Morad (Morad Parts Company - Your source for 3800 parts!) and I think is quicker if you use the email link to contact him. Just let him know the year make and model of your car and what part you are looking for and he will send you back a quote.

I have used both brand new hubs, and used ones from Ed. The last new hub I bought only lasted about 1.5 years and less than 35k miles.

The used hubs from Ed are still going strong after 2 years and 50k miles. I wouldn't have bought the new hub, but I was in a bind and couldn't wait for him to ship it. So I had to buy new. So not only did I pay over $100 more for the new hub, but it didn't last as long. And the warranty was only for 1 year. What crap. It was replaced with an Ed Morad used unit.

I followed a link someone posted to ZZPerformance and came across this wheel hub. Would it be a good one to use or is it import crap?

Probably still not as good as OEM. But I am interested in the lifetime warranty. I would have to ask questions about that. Because when a wheel bearing goes bad, I don't want to have to remove the damn thing and let my car sit on jack stands while I ship the bearing back and get a new one from ZZP. Just a pain in the ass.

Oh, and it will fail. Guaranteed.
