Hey guys, wondering what your opinions are on brakes...and ONLY these two options. Please do NOT tell me to get f-body brakes b/c they are not one of the options I'm presenting.

It's time for me to get brakes, and I need new rotors as one of mine was trashed (pad wore down to metal). I am on a very tight budget, but want to get something decent since I need new rotors..and part store rotors are a ripoff.

From TDC Racing, I can get stock replacment rotors with cross-drilling/slotting and Hawk pads for roughly $150 http://www.topdeadcenterracing.com/P....aspx?CatId=20

The other option I'm considering is
ZZP 12" upgrade with the single piston caliper. This comes with new plain rotors, calipers, bolts, bushings, and powerstop pads for about $250. http://www.zzperformance.com/grand_p...=576&catid=138

I thought the stock brakes were pretty good stock, which is why I'm considering the TDC route, as it'd be the same cost as parts store stuff, but would help on resale...as a potential buyer wouldn't care if the brakes were bigger, but looked cool ...

If it were you, would you spend the extra $100 for all new equipment and a larger, plain rotor? I do NOT have enough money to get f-body calipers. (or cross-drilled/slotted 12" rotors)

    Thanks for your opinions.
    Jesse

i did the 12" brake upgrade from the newer monte carlos and stuff for about $60. you can get that stuff from the junkyard (all you really need is the caliper brackets) and then you can buy whatever rotors and pads you want. they work way better than stock.

not dissing anyone above, but i vote for none of the above since you can get stuff for cheaper.

what years am I looking for? any special trim, or is it all of em?

Well, I just checked junk yards around here...and of course, nothing. Newest Impala is an 03...bummer. The yards around me typically don't have new stuff...which sucks for me, but I could go steal the brakes off my neighbors impala SS

    Thanks!

time is not on my side since my rotor is shot, so saving is not an option. So then, you would vote for just stock replacments...then get baers later.

All you need for a 12" upgrade is the caliper bracket and rotors. I just spent this morning at the yard and did the upgrad on the 99 GT they had in the yard just to make sure everything fit. You will use your same calipers and pads.

Here's the list (thanks to Matt5112) of vehicles that have the caliper bracket for 12" brakes:

    00-05 Buick LeSabre
    97-05 Buick Park Avenue
    97-99 Buick Riviera
    97-98 Buick Regency
    97-05 Cadillac Deville
    97-02 Cadillac Eldorado
98-02 Chevrolet Camaro (steal the calipers too!!!)
    00-05 Chevrolet Impala
    00-05 Chevrolet Monte Carlo
    97-03 Oldsmobile Aurora
    98-99 Oldsmobile Intrigue
    00-05 Pontiac Bonneville
98-02 Pontiac Firebird (steal the calipers too!!!)

I'm going the 12" route as the yard had an 03 Impala , but I'm going to get the TDC rotors and pads and new caliper hardware (bolts, rubber boots, etc) just because. It'll be easy to do...just gotta wait on parts.

Oh, and the caliper bracket bolts are the same on both cars too.

I'll put up pics when I'm done.
