I changed my front pads today and notice play in the left wheel. When I hold the top and bottom of the wheel I noticed a little movement there's no side to side movement. Any suggestion on what this could be, didn't have time to check further something came up that I had to take care of.

yup, very likely the ball joint. It can be hard to see if your shaking the wheel by yourself so try getting someone else to do the shaking and look at the ball joint.

Could also be a bad wheel bearing. In my 219k miles, I have never changed a ball joint and to this day, they are still good. But I have changed many wheel bearings.

That's weird; I've never replaced a bearing, but I just did my balljoints at 230k. It tore up a set of tires before I noticed the wear. You get wear on the extreme inside edge of the tire that's hard to see unless the tire is removed, or you turn the steering wheel all the way over.
