05 Grand Prix.. where should the position of the wear sensors on the pads be located?
The book indicates the following for the front:
The wear sensor is on the outside pad. The sensor is positioned at the leading or upward edge of the pad during forward wheel rotation.
So outside and the upper portion of the pad. The rear has no such instructions and the diagram would appear that it should be on the outside pad but downward. I'm somewhat surprised they would be different. So I'm a little confused.

The new pads also have a knub on the pads with the wear sensors. Is this designed to go into one of the two indentions on the caliper piston and the diagram for the rears is completely wrong?

most pads ive seen have the squealers on both sides of the pads. they should not be in the way of anything relating to the caliper.
at the end of the day im sure it really dont matter. having them on the outside does make it so you can see them easily and know how much life is left in the pads.

I don't disagree. On the flip side, I have seen people say to put them on the inside. If there is an issue like seized caliper pins, the inside will wear faster.
6 of one, half dozen of another?
Most of the cars I see driving around just wait till they are metal on metal anyway.

Pretty sure most pads come with them on all 4 pads per set, so in the end you should have em inside and out.
that metal to metal feel sure is a good indicator tho.
did brakes on a friends wifes car. metal to metal. metal parts of the pads were almost gone. so we were talking. im like so like 1500 miles ago the brakes had a loud squeal when you hit them coming to a stop? shes like YEAH! ok well thats your notice to get new brakes. means you got a 1000 miles left tops depending how you drive it. showed her the metal tab on the new pads and she totally got it. i was amazed lol

I have been doing a retarded amount of brakes in the last year. Almost all pads have an indicator either already on them or you need to install it as a little clip. As you are disassembling the brakes make note of where the indicator is before you pull it apart. There are some pads out there that do not have any indicators.
With rotors being a given to change with pads automatically, it almost doesn't matter if you end up going metal to metal without an indicator. However I look at my pads to see how the wearing is going when I rotate my tires.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.
