'99 Emergency Brake adjustment question
SE Level Member

I'm trying to "tighten up" the emergency brake pads on my '99 with rear discs. Can someone please tell me what direction the "star wheel" has to be turned (UP or DOWN) for each side. If my memory serves me right, the driver's and passenger's side wheels turn in different directions to open the spreader wider.
Thanks!

i take the brakes and rotor off and then adjust them. never had no luck using the hole in the backing plate.

Scottydoggs, I do have the caliper and rotor off. Not using the hole. But was just wondering which direction to turn each star wheel. I think I may have figured it out. Passenger side turns "up" to spread parking brake pads, so I assume driver's side must turn "down". Agree?

one might be reverse threads, as you turn it you can see the spreading. easy to figure out, open the pads a turn or so then test fit the rotor till its just lightly rubbing as you spin the rotor. if you go to far you cant get the rotor on past the e brake shoes.

It's real simple.. if it clicks nice when you turn it.. that's spreading the pad. If it's a brutal fight or you have to pull the tab to get it to turn.. that's compressing.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.
