Thread: Need some help with new rear rotors/calipers

Ok, so today i installed new Acdelco Ready struts along with powerstop calipers and centric rotors on the rear of my 01 GT.

Everything went fairly smoothly, except i noticed the drivers side rotor seems to be extremely hard to get it over the parking brake. Old one came off with a little tap of the mallet.

Upon test driving i noticed that the car would not coast forward from a stop when the brake was released....also had a loader squeal when in reverse.

Any suggestions? Do i need to adjust the parking brake so that rotor slides on more easily?

sadly the best way it to take that rear brake off, down to the rotor, take it off and back off the star wheel, placing the new rotor back on and off checking till it spins free. reinstall it all, and your done.

odd but most times you need to open the parking brakes so they even touch the new rotor when you work the e brake.

oh, heres a little tip. just unbolt the caliper bracket, and lift it off, no need to take the caliper off it for this task.

I think this is the first time I've ever done rear rotors on the GP.
Passenger side seemed to slide right on. Hopefully I didn't damage anything tapping the rotor to get it snug.

I'm doing the fronts Wednesday or Thursday too. Doing Impala powerstop calipers/rotors and pads...as well as the AcDelco ready struts. Should be easier not having to reach deep into the trunk!

im 6'6 so it was not all that bad of a reach for me lol but i could see it being rough for most.

only damage going on is the wearing of the e brake shoes as it drags. some will just drive it till it rolls free, not the best plan but it works.

and your gonna need an alignment after the struts are installed.

Lol, I'm only 5'8'' so that last nut was a stretch without actually getting in the trunk.

I did my front axles last year and paid a little extra for a lifetime alignment at Goodyear....so I'm all set for an alignment after the 4 ready strut install.

If the Powerstop calipers are painted or powdercoated, you are going to have to grind out the part where the pads sit or they are going to stick.

I hadn't heard that about the powder coated powerstops. The pads seem fit right in the rear calipers. I'll test fit the fronts prior to installing.

ive had to grind many a pad ends so they slide well. happens all to often. best always to clean and then grease the hardware on the bracket, then put the pads in the bracket and slide them in and out to make sure they more freely. if they dont, grind the end of the pad edges where they rub.

always re grease the slider pins too. clean the holes if they are caked with old dry grease.

Thanks for the heads up!! Got the rear parking brake adjusted and the back rotates freely with no noise!!

Got the front ready struts in, so much easier than the rear. Being able to turn the wheel really helps.

New Centric rotors (impala), pads and power stop dual piston calipers going on tomorrow!!

New calipers were super easy to install and now i have tons of brake! It might be my imagination but it seems to nose dive more than before.
