In the past few weeks, at random times, the volume will increase on its own to full volume. The only way to get it back down is to turn it down by the radio controls in the dash. Shortly after this started happening, I noticed the functions on both sides of the steering wheel no longer function. The lights recently went out on one side, as well. I've not had this apart yet, but had my '93 controls out of the wheel at one point and learned there were four wires that controlled all functions, if I recall correctly.

Do these switches on my '99 GP pry out of the wheel in a similar fashion? Is the air bag any concern?

Any thoughts on the culprit on this issue?

It's very similar. As long as you don't play with the airbag, it's no concern. Go after just the switches. Although I'm wondering if your clockspring is going bad.

Is that quite a job to replace?

I suspect it's not the switches, themselves, since both sides are not functioning, but the radio still works perfect.

Its mostly likely one of the harnesses in the steering column or a crimped wire in it.

I'm also having the same problem in my 08 gxp left side seems to work fine but the right side not so much, primarily just the volume will go down randomly and volume up doesn't work. Volume down sometimes pauses I do have an aftermarket head unit tho, not sure what adapter is it all came with the car when I bought it a couple weeks ago but steering wheel controls worked fine at first

if the air bag light is on the clock spring is bad for sure.

near the obd2 port is a yellow plug, and a black one, the black one is the steering wheel controls, try un plugging it a few times. maybe its dirty,

or your switches are shot, they do go bad.

How can the switches be removed? I believe I do have a bad switch, after all.

they just pull out of my regal wheel, theres a plug on the back of them. if you loose the wire in the hole and cant fish it back out you need to take the air bag off. maybe easier to just take it off in the first place.

I priced the switch and for +$100, I'm pretty sure I can reach down to the radio like in the old days before we had all these modern conveniences.
