99 GP GTP 4 dr. Decided to go with aftermarket stereo. I would like to keep my steering wheel controls and there is 1 wire from the stereo for that. Anybody in GP land know how to hook it up to the car?
2 hrs later: Hooked up new JVC stereo, wires seem correct, has power, no sound. Have a feeling it's related to the steering wheel controls.

One option is the Axxess #ASWC steering wheel module.

This is getting frustrating. Am I right in saying the stereo should work without the AXXESS steering wheel adapter installed? Obviously the steering wheel controls won't work. I have the Bose system and I think the trunk mounted amp is not turning on. There is a wire from the JVC stereo for this but where do I hook it into the factory car connector? Can't seem to find a decent wiring diagram on the 'net.

You should see an AMP wire on the adaptor harness diagram. Here is a link to the pin outs for the factory harness if that helps:

Yes, you're right, the stereo will work, but the steering wheel controls will not unless you use an aftermarket adapter. Access is a good unit and what I've used. The head unit should have a connection from the wiring to turn on/switch other units. Usually a blue wire. The corresponding amplifier should also have a point to connect this wire. The amp should only be controlled from this method as it eliminates the possibility of killing your battery. Use google, most head units and amps wiring diagrams are available online.

Oh great. i found a problem. So after i have been riding around with the new radio installed i notice that when the radio and car is on. and doors open or the low gas level sound comes on it will stop power to the radio... any idea why this would happen??

I would double check your wiring to the harness adaptor. If you didn't use a harness adaptor.....you should have. I would guess the 12+ accessory is connected to something it shouldn't be or the ground is.

Don't know why it turns off when the low fuel light comes on. Maybe so you hear the warning "dings". That's a wild guess on my part. My stereo stays on when you turn the car off and then turns off when you open the door. Believe that's the way it's supposed to work. I guess it's for listening to the stereo with the ignition off until you get out.
