Hey guys... sorry for the noob questions. I have no car audio experience whatsoever so this is all new and a lot of the things I have been reading have been a little confusing. What I would like to do is replace the head unit on my 2000 Grand Prix GTP but I want to get some things clarified before I go ahead and make any purchases. I already narrowed it down to a few head units but from what I have been reading it's a little more complicated on my car due to the Bose system that's in there already. For now I don't want to replace anything else except the head unit. The Bose speakers have built in amps and I don't want to bypass those. Keeping the steering wheel controls would be nice but I know I would need an adapter for that and it would make the installation a little more complicated.

So here are some of my questions... If I install the HU, what other functions on my car would I lose? I was reading somewhere that the HUD would obviously not work but would I lose things like the door chimes? Is it really necessary to purchase an adapter to not bypass the Bose amps because I saw somewhere that I may be able to splice a wire into the HU. Is that possible? What other parts would I need besides the HU and the mounting kit? Again sorry for the noob questions... I'm really new to all of this stuff.

Left one thing out... there's no OnStar.

The only thing you need is the steering wheel control adapter, the stereo install kit and the harness. You can go with one from pac-audio or the axxess steering wheel control adapter. You will not lose any chimes. You will lose the radio station display on the HUD. When you hook up the aftermarket stero just be sure to hook up the bose wire (pink wire) to the amp turn on wire on the harness. That is all you need.

Thank you The Guz... Just want to make sure I don't screw anything up. I'm gonna get it done here within a few weeks and I'll come back and post how it turned out.
