I bought my headunit from best buy, then my 5.25"s, 6x9"s, amp, subs and enclosure all came from eBay
Hifi sound connection I thought they were good I got my amp from their
Car Stereo and more at HiFiSoundconnection
what are your goals for the system?
I prefer Sonic Electronix...a awesome online source for car audio. A large selection and excellent prices. I bought the RF P3-1X10 from Sonic. They were the best on price.

I second blak's question... goals? Budget? If you just want sites to browse, wooferwarehouse.com is great for some hard to find stuff on mainstream sites. B2 audio for one.. but that's definitely not cheap lol. Audiotechnix just released some nice subs and amps. Tantric sounds is making a lot of noise in the lanes as well, to throw another brand out there.

Go a little higher... obsidian audio 12" (or skar vvx, sundown sa) and an audiopipe apsm 1500. Audiopipe isn't great gear, but the obsidian only needs 600rms, which you'll get with ease from that amp. Slightly above 300 factoring in an enclosure. Which enclosure depends on which sub you choose, listening habits, etc. If you're going to go through the process of getting "a little bump," you may as well wedge some slamming and whammin in there as well.
Edit: skar ivx and sundown e series subs are cheaper than the ones I suggested, and will give you a little bump. However, considering the cost to performance ratio on the obsidians.... well... you have my recommendation.

My subs and amp in my explorer came off craigslist. brand new, never even opened spent $80 on an easy $300+ setup
yeah AP amps as long as you get the ap1500d, dont get the apsm ones. Not that great. But the AP's will do rated and there is plenty of vids out there. But remeber with wattage comes electrical upgades. I have a buddy with the ap1500 and there 4 channel and there is massive amounts of draw on the system, until recenlty when i let him get one my spare batts. so expect to upgade something else. Usally start with big 3, make sure grounds are good and sanded to bare metal. Thats a good start.
I must suggest not listening to Jayke, if you do.. you run the risk of hearing loss.
