Im considering buying a active crossover ( 3 way ) for my system. The problem i cant find a good place to find detailed info on them. Every site ive been to just shows how to install them but i can do that in my sleep lol. Do you guys know any good sites that has info on setting crossovers? Or can you give me some advice on setting it up? Appreciate it

Going with an active 3-way system is not really for the beginner that just wants to jump into it. You gotta do a lot of research and pick your speakers based upon one another then set the crossovers. There's no exact crossover point that is best for really any setup. It's all subjective. You tune it how you like it.

In GENERAL your looking at a 6.5" mid woofer from about 60-500hz, a 2.5" midrange from about 500-4000hz and a tweeter from about 4000hz and up. That's just an example. You can overlay of underlap the points between speaks, it's all up to your liking. You can also play with the steepness of the cross over. 6db slope will allow the speaker to gradually stop playing the frequency you set it at whereas a 24db/octave slope will cut off the frequency much more abruptly from where you set it.

I'm thinking this fella is contemplating using one of the channels for his sub, as opposed to going with a 3 way active front stage. Someone pursuing that feat would have surely researched this topic thoroughly by now. If that is indeed the case OP, a additional processing besides the headunit and amp is not greatly needed in a number of daily systems. This is just my opinion. Lpf and ssf are about all ive ever needed. I can see if one is tinkering with different slopes and what not. Want awesome crossovers that are fun to tinker with? Check out the mini dsp.

Edit: I'm betting there's an in-depth discussion or 100 about crossover settings over on DIYMA
