I have considered getting two new 12" subs as my ears has had enough of hearing my Sony xplods lol. There's nothing wrong with them to me. I just wanna hear more of the low notes so its time to move on. My situation is that i love the box that came with the subs. I was wondering if i can buy the new subs and put them in the Sony box? Thanks

Yes they should work. Is it a full size sub box? Also I would try and use the same screw holes

I believe so. Its the box with the slant in the back of it and the big ported hole on the side

the box is more important than the subs. prefab enclosures have a really bad rep

Only one way to find out is to try a different set of subs. Boxes are usually designed specifically for the subs they come with. Just throwing any subs in it can hender the performance.

That as well. But when I put my kicker in it I noticed a noticeable but good difference

All you can do is try sometimes it works just fine other times it doesn't. Worse case scenario you just have a box made for the new subs 8) I usually just have my box made specially for what sub I want to use.

yeah the install which would include the box is 80% of the sub system the driver itself is important but i can make a 100 dollar sub in the right box sound better then a 800 dollar sub in a crappy prefab

look at the sub specs, in reality no box is built for other subs. subs thats a lol. buy 1 good one, trunk isnt big enough for 2 properly installed ported beasts.

could definitely fit 2 12's in a ported box. I have my fi bl in a 4.4 cube (after port and sub) box was a tight fit but got it to slide in

Boxes are built(most of the time) for 1 specific sub. Each sub(once again most of the time) has a different air space requirement. Boxes are easy to build.
