So here it is, I have a 98GP with am/fm cd and factory speakers. I bought this for my son to drive. Well he is looking at aftermarket deck, amp, speakers, and sub. So what a better place than here to ask for suggestions than here! I am out of the loop on whats currant or even reliable for this. I am not rich and may have to do things in stages. I just want to shown the right direction with out the "salesman" hype.
    Thank you all.

Sonic Electronix usually has pretty good prices on audio stuff. Might save you some money when you go to buy. As for what's current and reliable I know alpine and rockford are pretty good but other than that I got no clue lol.

Thank you 00GT. I think if the head unit was a "plug-n-play concerning the wiring harnes would be good as well. I like Alpine and Rockford fosgate stuff. Thank you again for the info!

Yes, sonicelectronix.com does have good prices. For the head unit you will need a wire harness, antenna adapter (if kids these days even use the actual fm/am part of the radio) and a mounting kit. Front speakers are 5 1/4's (5.25's) rears are 6x9's (6x9's). Instead of us picking something for you, go to the site and find something in your budget and we'll tell you if it's reliable.

03 GTP...Its got pulleys and stuff.

That is a great idea of going to the site. I really was not wanting everyone to "pick" the system. Just suggestions on what works in this car and what doesn't. I am always willing to listen to people that have prior experiance on a subject, then make my decisions to follow them or not. I learn alot this way, and if I am wrong on a decision then it is I to blame. no one else.

Taking responsibility for your own actions, I like that too many people fail to do that these days

Just pick a system in your budget, post it here and we'll let you know if it's reliable. Most speakers are reliable as long as they're not beat on. Some will take a beating. Amp's on the other hand are the most unreliable part of the entire system.

Crutchfield: Car Stereo, Speakers, Home Theater, LCD TV, Digital Cameras will give you a fantastic idea on what will fit in the gran prix. It is usually more expensive than other places but is a wonderful place to go for information. A good system doesnt have to be difficult to install and expensive to own. Every piece of stereo equipment I have owned in my car has been infinity, they are a quality brand for a reasonable price and I have been very happy with all of my amplifiers and speakers. I also have had pioneer head units, and that would be the brand I would recommend for the head unit itself. Best of luck on your install, let us know if you need any help.
    Infinity all around.

I have rockford fosgate speakers inside. T1 components which include tweeters, and T1 6x9s. I have 2 hifonic amps, pushing these speakers and a kicker L7 15" sub. The inside sounds really nice, loud and clear. The hifonics amps are really good amps for the money. I also had 2 12" fosgate P3 subs and really like them. A lot of bass. Can't go wrong with kicker or rockford fosgate.

One of my little philosophies I try to live by is that You pay a price with every choice you make and sometimes the right choice can hurt you more than the wrong one, but you can't make that choice based on the pain you must make that choice based on living up to your name and whats right.

I have a JVC head KD-R900 unit with bose speakers from a 99 Grand prix every thinks it sounds awesome and the best part is the speakers are readily available in scrap yards and that head unit or one comporable to it (I am not sure if they still make that one) Is fairly cheap I paid like $129.00 with shipping like it so much I bough one for my van and have another one just siting in the garage I was going to put into my mom's PT cruiser BUT at 96 they took her license away a week after I bought it (they should have done that sooner I worried every day). Easy to put in and great sound I transferred my cd collection (500+ ) to a thumb drive and play it all through there

And try PAC Audio for any integration requirements. Sonic Electronix, good choice. Just remember, the best systems sound like crap with cheap or undersized wire.
