Thread: Stereo Qurstion: CD Player(What works)

I am looking to switch out my CD player because the CD automatically gets pushed out and it doesn't play so I am looking to switch it out. What size of the Bigger CD Players could I use to switch it out without a adapter kit, and would I also need a wiring harness? Thanks

You have what's called a "double DIN" factory stereo unit. This is great because it basically doubles your options.

You can get an aftermarket head unit that's roughly the same size as your OEM unit...I have a Pioneer AVH=P2400BT in my car and I love it. With the appropriate adapter, you can also use a single DIN head unit...which, as you might have guessed, is half the height of a double DIN.

Depending on whether you have steering wheel controls and or Onstar and Monsoon...or none of the above, it's possible with the proper Metra adapters to have full OEM functionality...you would lose the date function in the DIC.

Depending on how handy you are with tools, you can have the OEM head unit laying on the ground in about ten minutes. If you don't need the adapter units for the steering wheel controls and the amp, the wiring is straightforward...wire for wire with the OEM harness adapter to your head unit's harness. If you have to/want to use the adapter units (you don't have to if you don't want the steering wheel controls to work, the Onstar or the chimes), you're looking at a more involved job.

Hmmm maybe I would be better off buying a stock stereo? Would I be able to wire subs and put in new pioneer speakers if I just bought another stock factory receiver? Rather than the newer stereos that I would need an adapter with...would I still need an adapter if I bought a Double DIN Reciever? Thanks

You can maintain steering wheel controls by using an after market unit that you wire with the new head unit. PAC and Axxess are two that I know. Like I said, if you find wiring diagrams to be intimidating, installing the adapters will certainly be that. Find someone to help you that can, or get it installed professionally.

Total cost, with me installing it? Under $400.

K well I will probably get a touchscreen head unit, I asked around at a few places and they'll charge 250 to put it in plus the cost of the stereo but then it will be more now because I will need to add the steering wheel converter. Thanks guys, I have made up my mind
