I want to get this fixed before Winter comes for obvious reasons:

I have a 2002 Monte Carlo and it keeps dying when coming to a stop only while the heat or AC is on. Basically any time I have the air blowing out of the vents it will die when coming to a stop. I can see the voltage drop when I come to a stop also. It's almost like the car is drawing too much for the alternator to keep up.

First thought was alternator which I ended up getting a sweet deal on a 220amp DBelectrical one off here. I have yet to intall it.

    Second was the ignition switch.

Any other ideas? I will be installing the alternator this week.

    Here is a video too:

It does sound like charging system related.

On my 95 explorer, the voltage meter was dropping sharply to the point where it wasnt safe to drive at night, because having the lights + heater on was dropping the voltage way too low and it was almost stalling. If it was raining and I needed the wipers, forget it.

I replaced the belt, cleaned up the battery terminals and reseated the alt connections and it got way better.

I would turn on everything but the heater(wipers, radio, headlights, ect...) to see if it is a electrical issue. Those other systems should pull as much as the blower.

Are the heater controls vaccume operated? Could be leaking through the heater control...

the fan quits working or the engine stalls?

if it stalls i would think the a/c compressor is going bad. it works when the heat or a/c is on.

if the fans quitting i would test the alt and battery.

Scott..he said ign volts are dropping with fan on, and he figured out the regulator is likely bad. So he's got an alt sitting there about to go on.

This is a info only thread...he's not looking for help yet.

    Negative Nancy. lol

I think it might be due to the fact that I also have both fans coming on at the same coolant temp in my file. We will see.
