I was wondering if there was an After market HU that doesn't lose steering wheel controls. After going through pages and pages i found a guy claiming his HU worked with steering Wheel Controls. Another member asked him if he needed some adapters or if all he needed was the HU. He Never responded.

heres the link Post #5 He says his steering controls still work. http://www.grandprixforums.net/took-...off-59178.html

I really don't want to lose the ability to use the controls but i NEED and AUX port.

I saw another person on this website who connected his own AUX port to his stereo and ran the aux through the lower cubby but did not give much information on how he did it..well he didn't give Any actually(it got off topic and he gave a lil how to on some leds lol). I was Really considering this option so i wouldn't lose my controls and save some money but no one has put enough information out there on how to do this.
    The Thread - http://www.grandprixforums.net/aux-c...ion-63411.html

I might just have to go the COMPLETELY LAME ASS route and buy a stupid wireless fm modulator.

    Thanks for the responses guys.

You can buy an adapter to keep your steering wheel audio controls, but which one you get is determined by which deck your get.

the adapter seems pretty pricey. i've seen it to be around $60 i was planning on getting a hu of around $90-$120 and then the Dash kit is around $20. I unfortunatly don't have enough extra cash to spend on that so i was sort of hoping for a Cheaper alternative. The FM tuner is probably my Desperation state but i have around 140 that i can spend atm. oh and i would have to buy an antenna aswell but i really appreciate your response! thanks!

Save your money. Sorry, but with a $90-$120 headunit, you are going to get what you pay for. I bought a cheap headunit ONCE. It lasted 6 months. I bought a $200 headunit and it lasted 7 years.

If you are going to do it, do it right. Spend the money on a GOOD headunit, and get the accessories that you need to keep the options you want.

Ok so then what about the AUX port Method? i DO like the Current HU. does anyone have the DIY AUX port hooked up to the HU? i'm REALLY considering that route.

In one of the 3 threads you made for this i asked what kind of deck you had.
Im not for sure if what i got will work on the deck you said you have.
I have the 6 CD changer with XM Monsoon deck. I used a 60$ piece to get the aux to work.

The guy you asked was the Original thread creator, i have the last replies on the thread which were my first. Either way im glad you saw this! As far as i know i have a normal deck (not sure how to check). I'll have to check tomorrow if its a 6 CD changer but whats the $60 piece called and is there a write up on how to do it? I'd totally rather spend $60 then buy $160+ worth of stuff just for an AUX port if you know what i mean lol

    Thanks for replying!

I just installed an Axxess ASWC adapter with my radio and boom, steering wheel controls with aftermarket HU and no input lag. The instructions weren't very helpful, but after I went online and actually entered info to their webpage, they gave me the correct wires to use and procedure, and then it was easy as hell.

My HU is a JVC AVX-640, so it is a pretty solid, "non-cheapo" HU, powering my system. That's another story though.

I just think that all our factory HU's were very limited and sounded like crap, they had a permanent EQ on the low end of the system to make our factory speakers sound more bassey, so any sub hooked up sounds very uneven. The Monsoon system had even more pitfalls.

Really, a center dash speaker? Completely messes up any chance of having a correct sound stage and detracts from the stereo feel.

I've had my headunit for about 7 years now. It's cd player has quit taking or ejecting cd's but it still works for everything else. I spent 290ish. Look into PAC-SWI for steering wheel controls. It learns you Infared Signal from your remote and sends the signal to make your steering wheel compatible again. I have one but i accidentally broke my IR lead. So i need to buy another one.
