Hey everybody, this is my first post. I'll take the time to introduce myself eventually but for now I need to get the problem I am experiencing taken care of so I can start enjoying my grand prix. My fiance and I just bought a 2000 grand prix gt and we're loving the way it drives but it would be nice to have some tunes while we drive. That's right, no radio. When we bought the vehicle he told us that the stock radio did not work. He said this was because he had put an aftermarket head unit in, but an interested interested buyer wanted all oem parts in the vehicle when he bought it. He went on to explain that when he put the stock head unit back in he did somethingthat set off the stock head unit's security something-or-other, it sounded like garbage to me. I figured it was something in the head unit itself. Well I put in a new head unit this evening and it does the same thing. Both would turn on, but switch between functions, adjust fine and so forth but no audio whatsoever. No static, no music, no noise. I'm guessing that its something in the wiring harness but I'm not too sure. I just want to get this thing working. And then move on to bigger and better things like aftermarket audio and tune ups.

I'm not sure, I never saw a code like that and the head unit functioned as it should as far as I can tell. It shouldn't matter much now as the stock unit is in the trunk and a mid-end pioneer unit is in the dash.

Well, being as its a GT, Was it a Monsoon radio? Or did the car have the factory Bose 6 Speaker system?

If i remember right, They have Factory Amplifiers, On the Monsoon radios, Its behind the glove box. In a bose system they are in the trunk between the 2 Cargo speakers. Check your fuses and make sure the AMP fuse is not blown.

I had the same problem. If it's an aftermarket headunit and you have the bose speakers, there should be a blue wire with white stripes on the headunit, hook that up to the pink one IN the car. You'll have to splice the wire but oh well. Once you hook those up they should click right on. That's the power to the amp which obviously powers the speakers.

Thanks for the input everyone, I appreciate it. I'm fairly confident it does not have the monsoon system in it, the head unit looked like a classic gm unit to me so I'm going to assume its the boss or other factory system. I also swung by a shop yesterday, their opinion was that it was the amp, looked it up and found there was no amp on the 2000 grand prix gt. I looked in the trunk but did not see an amp, where would it be visible from if there was one? I'll look up behind the glove box tomorrow when it's warm. I'm eager to get this radio working but I will probably replace the entire factory system, wiring and all in the spring. I'm probably going to do something with the brakes as well as we are already having trouble with them. I'll see which system I have in the morning and check from there. I believe it does not have a factory amplifier but I could certainly be mistaken. I will check behind the glove box and in the trunk again, should they both be easily visible or will I have to remove something to see either amp? After I check out the amps I'll check the harness and see if its the culprit.

Yeah Its behind the Glove box. CHeck your Harness for your aftermarket radio, And the factory harness you connected to, Did your adapter have a Blue wire labled Remote or Power Antenna? Coming off the factory harness, Not the radio harness. If it has the power antenna one Or the remote one you might need to connect them to the radios Remote Blue wire.

Well guys I did a little work and haven't managed to come to any solution yet. I went behind the glove box and took a look, there was no amp. While I was under the dash I was saw the fuse box I saw that there was an amp spot and an amp fuse which seemed to be just fine. I haven't looked in the trunk yet but I haven't seen one in there whilest loading and unloading things. I broke out the stock cassette player and it was not a boss or monsoon. I'm fairly certain it's just a stock gm. The pioneer head unit has an amp line but it was not connected. But the weird thing is that the stock hook-up doesn't have a line for it. I tried to look for one but to no avail. I did have a bit of luck though. I found that when I turn it all the way upI can hear faint noise out of the front right speaker. Someone please tell me what the hell is going on. I'm growikng very impatient. I'm this close to a total rewiring.

    Up Top

I'm sorry to bump a dead thread, but its my dead thread and I would really like some help. I believe I have the Bose system.I've been looking through this section and I can see I'm not the only one who has had this problem. The strange thing is I remember happening upon an individual with the same experience I wrote about in my last post. He would turn his radio WAY up and only get the faintest noise out of the front speaker. I have also been researching since I last posted and found many have different methods of bypassing the stock amp and there are harnesses available to do so. I have also seen many advise not to do a rewire as the stock wiring will do just fine? Could anyone let me know what that's about?

I feel like the entire system in general is out of my realm, but I'm confident with enough research I could accomplish a basic repair if not a complete system upgrade. I just kinda want a kick down the right path. I'll keep researching in the mean time.

If you have to find your stock wiring and tap each line using a spare speaker and see if u get sound. Tap from behind the hu. If you have a general factory head unit, you don't need the amp. If you get sound, you have a problem in the wiring and can just rewire it or troubleshoot the wiring.
