So my car has a non bose system but it does have the 8 speaker separates with the 6x9s and 4" in the rear deck and 5.25" and tweeters in the fron doors. Prior to my buying the car, the rear speakers had been chaged out to full range 6x9s and full range 4"s but the door speakers were untouched and sounded bad. I decided to just change out the 5.25 woofer with a 5.25 full range and just delete the tweeter... Or so I thought. When I did this on the passenger door it involved cutting the positive and negatives off the original as well as unclipping a harness that went from the 5.25 to the tweeter. I hooked up the new full range 5.25 and had zero sound then I plugged in the harness and all I get is high freq coming through. No meter to check actual freq but they are high as in dogs howl high. Any idea what I did wrong? and what I need to do to fix it? Thanks

I'm not positive...but if you hook up the wires taht went to the mid (5.25) t0 your new one, it should work fine. ... Got a pic or two of what you did?

I'm guessing it had a Bose in it, sometimes the system shuts off power when senses something's wrong, and 2 since you hook up to midrange the speaker it self may not give you your high signal

I did not take pics but will pull door panel off this weekend and take a couple pictures and monkey around with it and if I don't get it right I'll post up the pics.

As far as it having been a Bose, I am pretty sure it is the original head unit that is almost a double din size that has the cassete player and graphic eq along with steering wheel controls. If it's not original it fooled me. Also none of the speaker grills say Bose and the 12 disc changer in the trunk is an ac-delco unit that works with the head unit.

    Thanks!

The doors had a crossover somewhere that sent only highs to the tweets. Maybe you wired the new speaker incorrectly?

Why delete the tweeters? Run a low signal blocker and wire them with the 5.25. It will raise the sound table back up.

I re did my front door speakers this weekend. (97 coupe GT) It had a 1 red and 1 gray wire from the 5.25 terminal that went up to the tweeter. I soldered those two puppies to either side of the terminal on the new speaker and away she went.

Thanks I will look at that asap. I did not get to work on the speaker issue this past weekend but I don't recall a red and gray I thought it was red and black but maybe I am more color blind than I thought Thanks
