    Hey guys,
I drive a 2004 Grand Prix GTP and I am looking to install a new head unit. I know I will need a new harness (the door chimes and existing functionality of the cars accessories would be ideal) and I need to know what kind I should get, I have been looking at the GMOS-04, and I was wondering if anyone has used this to install a new HU before. And if not what harness should I consider? I also am concerned because this harness has 4 RCA male plugs that connect the speakers to the HU, and my new HU only has 2 for the S/W would it be ideal to solder female RCA jacks to the speaker wires on the new HU to connect the speakers.

    Thanks for the help,
    Evan

Metra 97-2003 will only lose your date on the dic and door chimes. It was $20 at my local audio store.

I'd like to keep the date on my DIC and the door chimes, It's important to me that the functionality of the accessories remain in tact. I would only take the risk of losing them if it were absolutely necessary, but I know there are harnesses out there that retain that type of functionality. the only problem for me is determining what harness that is, and finding out if anyone else has had success with that product.

I really appreciate the help though

I'm in the process of doing the same thing in my 06 w/ monsoon. From what I can see, you need this:

    GM Factory Integration Adapter

You will lose the date in the DIC no matter what as the DIC pulls the date from the radio (i assume the RDS system). You will, however, be able to keep chimes and everything else with that adapter. Order from Crutchfield and you'll get that adapter for $50 with a headunit purchase.

I'm going to get the Pioneer AVH-3300BT, that adapter, and then the Metra Axxess for steering wheel controls.

Is there a possible modification that will allow the DIC to keep the date? Perhaps a separate module, or just bypassing the radio all together?

You would have to keep the factory radio plugged in. There's some mods floating around the web of putting the stock radio in trunk for such a purpose.

Then that is what I will have to do, I will look for the mod. If possible could you also try to find a link to the mod you are talking about. it certainly interests me.

I drive the exact same car and about a week ago had the exact same question. I went on crutchfield.com and ordered a new headunit to replace the stock monsoon headunit and ordered the GMOS-04 along with it. Now yes you have to have a headunit with 3 sets of rcas because the gmos uses 2 sets not counting the subwoofer output rcas (i believe) I was worried at first about the installation because the wiring harness is a little intimidating but it was actually the easiest install i have ever done. Took a solid 45 min start to finish and it works like a charm! The dinging is a little annoying but the GMOS has an adjustable level for it so you can turn it down if needed.

i have a kenwood dnx7120, navigation, bluetooth, blah blah.... anyway went to local aftermarket shop and i pick up a y adpater, and i have the stock radio installed in the trunk, the radio is in a small wood box that i put together and it is attached to the roof of the trunk ( behind the stabilizer bar ) it sends all the wires u need for just the radio in the trunk and leaves the rest up for the head unit and everything works like the stock radio was still there oh and i have the 04 compg
