I've been looking at possibly putting some LEDs in my engine bay.

How well will LEDs withstand heat in a turbo engine bay?

They should withstand heat better then a normal bulb I would think.

Well that doesn't sound too promising. LOL

I might just say screw it and give it a try. At $2.99 for a 9" strip it seems fairly cheap.

Most LEDs are made of the actual diode and then a plastic surround. LED bulbs put out less heat than a regular bulb (that is glass and a filament) but as far as it getting hot from another source they will be worse. Unless you find some LED bulbs that have a glass surround they will melt.

Afraid Pure2sin is right here. I have seen 2 personal instances where plastic LEDs melt. Once on my Droid Incredible, left the flashlight on for 30 minutes.... melted the rear case and the LED bulbs themselves. Also on my friends bike, hes had a couple a few inches from exhaust and they are trashed now. I would think you could get by as long as they are on the sides like where the engine bay meets the fender.

    And smile it's Blacktooth Grin!

What type of LEDs you thinking? White or color? Cause these guys say they have a 1 year warranty on theirs and claim they are engine bay lights.

Million Color LED Engine Bay Lighting Kit

Just saying. I also have a 15% off code for the company if you want

I want to do Red LED's and I was thinking about putting them under the engine braces and strut tower bar. Then rembered the washer bottle sits directly under the passenger engine brace. The driver side has the baby turbo next to it and the strut bar runs over the upper downpipe.

Maybe I can do a strip by the radiator.

Anyone have any pictures of theirs so I can drum up some ideas?

Ordered some white ones. I just couldn't do the red after thinking about it. I'm trying to just light up the engine bay for night shows. 5 strips, 9 1/2" long, 24 LEDs and cost $10.50

If I have any strips left I will be fabricating a plate behind the grill and reshaping them into a design. I was thinking about doing a light up Pontiac arrowhead in the grill.

Also have some other ideas to make them tastefully done.
