Hey guys. I'm new here and have spent hours going over the forum looking for suggestions on how to upgrade the system on my 2002. Problem is I'm more confused then when I started.
I've got a small budget, $250. The stock system is the standard cd w/eq, tweeters, 5.25 door and 6x9 deck speakers. The only thing I've done so far is add an aux jack so I an use an Ipod.
I'd like better sound with more solid bass. Is it a mistake to keep the factory head? Initial thought is that I need to to keep the budget low but then I see something like this
Clarion-CZ200-CZ-200 which will take a steering wheel adapter kit(later) but does give me preamp outputs now so I wouldn't need o buy a converter.
Looks like a good headunit for that price. Factor in the cost of a mount kit though, which, if bought from Walmart (I have made the kit @ Walmart work with 01-03 GP's) will cost about $25-$30 and about an hour of your time.
The only thing I'm positive of is I'm going with 6.5 components in the doors. The reviews look pretty good on the
Hifonics-Zeus-ZXi-6.5C.
Hifonics is good budget stuff, but I've heard some great reviews on Crescendo's CCX65 comp set, but it's $99. Just make sure you can do the mod to fit 6.5" speakers in the 5.25" slot
I'm thinking a single 8 inch sub and building my own box, looking at an
RE-Audio-SRI10D2. Would this be a good choice for an amp
MTX-Audio-Terminator-TN250-1
Sub looks good (although it is a 10" sub compared to you saying an 8"). Amp, probably not so much. You can only either wire that sub to 1 ohm or 4 ohms, so you want to aim at something like that. I'd suggest the Audiopipe AP400.1D. Audiopipe has been getting good reviews for their upper power amplifiers on a budget, and I'm about to test their AP1500.1D out for myself, but if you find something that pushes 400 watts RMS at 4 ohms, let us know.
Rear speakers? 6x9s are the obvious "not to use". Many seem to suggest no rears. Shouldn't I have something back there so friends in the cheap seats don't hear all bass?
It's all personal preference. I stuck a pair of Pioneer 6x9's in for the stock, my dad's 6x9's crapped out on him (aftermarket too, but they were $20 lol), and you can tell a difference in the sound. I'd say just pop a good pair in there, or if you feel up to it, get a 5.25" component set and make your own mount.
I'm open to any suggestions, thanks.
Gave mine. Hope it helps.
