Okay i have the 8 speaker premium sound system. its time to get rid of the stock amp and stock 6x9's because they distort with even the slightest amount of bass. the speakers arent blown.. they just suck lol. The rear 6x9's are powered by a low frequency amp under the dash.. I want to get aftermarket 6x9's. How can i go about bypassing this amplifier?

run new wires haha, someone prob knows more about the stock systems on these cars then me, i just put subs in

yea thats what i figured.. my cousins monsoon system in his grand am has soooooooooooo much more bass for just 6x9's in the back

6x9's are a waste of time.
take them out, leave the hole open and install some sort of sub in the trunk.
If you're getting rid of everything then you'll need a new head unit, amp for the sub and new speakers for up front.
Get 6.5 component speakers and put the tweets in your stock tweeter location.
You'll also need an amp wiring kit for the sub amp. single run of 4 gauge should be fine.
Any halfway decent 12 in a sealed box should do quite well.

Thanks matt!! I actually already have an aftermarket head unit and my car is already wired for subs haha so im set. AND i work at best buy and we get huge discounts in car audio

okay im working on tuesday so im gonna check and see what we have there and see how good my discount is.. i got infinity 6x9's for my cousins car for 70 bucks and they are normally 140

Ok, well I have put in quite a bit of sound systems into peoples cars and you don't necessarily need a new head up and if you want to save some money you can just go to your local Home Depot and get your wiring from there because they sell wire a hell of a lot cheaper than actual wiring kits. I know a lot of people like to get a new head unit when they put subs in a car cause its easier for wiring with an amp, but it is also nice to put your subs on a switch so you can turn them on and off when you please.

Why would you want to switch on and off part of the sound spectrum? If its setup properly you dont need to do that.
Wiring kit is $50-60 for one pair of RCA's, amp power, ground, remote wire, fuse holder with fuse.
You can't get all of that for that price shopping separately.

switching it on and off is nice when going through a school zone or a hospital zone or when the police pull up next to you at a stop light. and you can easily buy that for less than $60 bucks because I have done it under that.

All the wiring for it costed us less than $20 bucks. Plus not all songs are made to go BOOM BOOM so its nice to turn it off for those songs

You must have no idea how to set up a subwoofer then.
You're telling me you can purchase 17 feet of 4 gauge wire for less than $20?

You got it I have no idea how to setup a subwoofer at all (Dad is an electrician). Copper is not that expensive. We paid about 53 cents or so a foot at home depot.

I believe the wiring could be found cheaper. Where you might be losing out is whether or not it's plated to resist corrosion(some companies just plate nickel with copper to be cheap), decent insulation, and flexibility(strand count).
If you don't care about any of that then you can definitely get some cheap wire. welding cable comes to mind even.

All this wiring stuff aside (and for the record, I would never get power wire from home depot for many reasons that have already been stated)
Did u figure out what you want to get speaker wise! I know matt suggested a good system and I know you mentioned infinity. I happen to love infinity and ive always used it. Let us know what you decided!
