Hey everyone, I had a question about installing an aftermarket radio into my 98 Pontiac Grand Prix GT Coupe. Where can I find compatible radios to install into the car? And does anybody know how to do it? My radio has a few buttons falling off etc, and it just looks like plain crap, plus I need a way to connect an I-Pod to it. Thanks alot.

Thanks alot. Would something like this also work? Amazon.com: Dual XHD6425 4X50 Watt Bluetooth-Ready HD Radio and MP3 Player: Electronics

Im kinda on a tight budget. Would any aftermarket radio work? If i wanted to do it myself how would you unlock the radio (codes).

Then it also mentions something about DINs and how a 98 GP is 1.5 DINs. Does this matter? What if i got a 1 DIN radio?

pretty much any single DIN radio head unit will work, although depending on the kit you use, you may have to remove a tab in the back of the dashboard thats in the radio opening. for an aftermarket radio there are no codes to mess with, just wire it up and plug it in... they only do codes like that so the radios can't be stolen and used in another car, they would have to be taken to the dealer and unlocked if that were the case...

You say you are on a tight budget, what is your max? I haven't heard much about Dual brand and would probably go with something more mainstream. Almost any single DIN CD player will work in a GP.

If you're going to get a Pioneer, don't get a cheap one. Go all out, otherwise you will be disappointed. The DHM-1200 (i think) is a very nasty model. Almost never trust the best buy online fit guide, if you can get one aftermarket radio in there, another one should fit just fine.

Theres a pretty good "fit guide" on crutchfield.com along with tons of other info. Plus if you order from them they will usually give you the harness and mount free with the stereo. Not bad considering those 2 usually cost anywhere from 50 to 100.

i personally think crutchfield is the best at figuring out what may or may not fit your vehicle.

    http://www.crutchfield.com/whatfits

enter all your vehice information and they will tell you what will and will not fit without major modification

Just from experience, I wouldn't suggest going with Dual. I bought an XD6150, and it arguably has worse sound quality than the Delco originally in there (just overall quiet and very weak bass). But it does fit!
I've also noticed some problems with the tuner - it's not very strong, and a lot of stations that used to come in quite clear now have a lot of static. I can only hear them clearly when standing still, which isn't that helpful. I've noticed similar things in reviews on the product you've mentioned.

    1 DIN, yes.

    1.5 DIN, yes.

    2 DIN, requires custom work.
