Hi, The stock single CD XM stereo in my 06 GP went out on me last thursday, stereo still works, just display is broken. It was on its way out for a long time. The display had been getting worse and worse since I bought the car. So the stock radio was always a piece of >>>> in my eyes, and i want something nice to replace it that retains the factory systems like the bells, and dingers and all that. I want to have IPOD accesibility and keep my XM. The Double Dins I've been looking at are hard to sort through. I was hoping to capitalize on someone else's wisdom, rather than pay for my own through trial and error.

The most important feature for me to keep is the steering wheel controls on the new stereo.

One of the main thing you have to ask yourself when looking for double din is do you want navigation or not because the the price goes way up with nav. If your looking for one with nav I would look into the INA-W900 from Alpine it has a great full speed IPod connection(cable included) a alternative to the alpine would be the AVIC-z120BT from pioneer witch also has great IPod control(cable not included). For XM you would have to ditch the stock XM and add a XM piece from either company. As for steering wheel control and chimes pac audio has all the interfaces to retain all those features. Evan

    Thinks alot EKING,
I'm kind of a map and compass type of person. so i don't care about the navigation. But it would be sweet to have that and DVD in the car. I just think one of those two features would eventually get me in a bad accident. lol. Besides I have NAV on my cell, if I really need it.
The XM is seeming to be the biggest snag in this stereo swap. I was hoping the XM modual that is in the car now would plug into the new head unit. Or that at least the antenna would be interchangable so I wouldn't have to rewire the part on the roof. I appreciate your help and will keep on looking. Thanks, Duke

So the bulbs burn out in your radio display and you want a new radio? Thats like having your tail light burning out and scrapping your whole car...

You should be able to use the stock XM antenna. You would have to mount your new XM module where the stock one is and you may have to remove the plastic cover on the stock antenna end to make it fit. I have done this on many newer GM vehicles and have not any problems. One last note is you will want a XM that's a hide-a-way piece not one you mount on the windshield or dash. Evan

That is an interesting analogy there, but why don't you show me how to put a lightbulb in an lcd radio display.

    Ask and you shall receive.

This link shows the older style GP radios, and yours is the same concept, except I believe your style has 3 bulbs.

You are correct that it is LCD display, but the backlight shines thru it so you can see the display.

Not sure how to dismantle the newer radios, but Im guessing its not too difficult.

Of course you dont have to listen to me, Im just being a cheap ass, but thats the link if you decide to do it.

    Hope this helps.
