    Hi Guys,

In my 2007 Base Grand Prix (attached a picture for the fun of it) i've been kicking the idea of doing an audio system. I had one in my old car, and only thing salvaged was the sub/amp. It's an old Rockford Fosgate Punch 12" with a cheap (don't laugh now) 150 watt lighting audio amp.

Anyways, i was thinking of speakers all the way around, and using this sub/amp setup, but when looking at new aftermarket headunits at crutchfield, there was a warning that i'd lose my DIC Calender feature. Is that true? And if so, what else would i lose? Also, i like how my stock radio shows the name of the song and artist and radio station call letters and that, do these new headunits do that?

Sorry for the bombardment of questions, i've been away from the audio aspect of cars for a few years. Any help would be great!

all you lose is the ability to tell what date it is, it will still show a date just be the wrong one.
If you have hud, you will lose the radio station showing on the hud when you scan through the stations.
That is all that you will lose.

The aftermarket will not show the display of the name of the radio station and all info they put out (like artist name, song name, and sometimes morning show times and radio dj names)
You can program the radio stations name (like 105.7 here in st. louis is "the point") and it will display the name of that radio station once programmed.

I have heard rumors of some alpine and pioneers being able to do the info scroll, but as many as I see a day; I have never physically witnessed any that do.

I know it's an odd thing to hear, but you wanna deck that supports HD (that's right, high Definition) radio... I've seen a few around here, but they aren't cheap. Also, it only works if said radio station BROADCASTS in HD. Again, a few around here do.... I installed an aftermarket deck in my father-in-law's Olds Silhouette, because he works for a radio station in Mobile, AL and they upgraded to HiDef broadcasting and he really wanted to see what the difference was, and support the station's new way of doing things. Evidently it also gives a more accurate count of listeners and ratings to the station itself, when the station is playing in a car. Honestly, IMHO, it wasn't worth the price or the hassle to find a HU that would support it.

Actually, HD radio doesn't mean High Definition. It means Hybrid Digital. The higher quality signal is digital, but it is broadcast at the same frequency as the normal signal which is still analogue. Being able to transmit both signals on the same frequency and still keep backwards compatibility with any and all radios is why it's called "Hybrid" digital.

Too hard on yourself. I was just trying to put the info out there. It's a common misconception.
