Thread: Signal to noise ratio?

can someone break down what a higher signal to noise ratio does on a amplifier? I get that its the ratio of the signal to background noise, but what does this affect when talking about subs? is a higher signal to noise ratio just clearer? or is it louder? just need some help. thanks

The higher the signal to noise ratio (2:1) for example, the less the background noise cuts in. If the ratio is 1:1, there is an even amount of signal (music) to noise frequency and basically you can't distinguish the music from the other noises.
