i took the back off and removed the circut board . on mine there was a bad solder joint where the battery made contact. took my soldering iron and resoldered that part, and it helped alot. now it will lock or unlock like it used too
I have to be about 3 feet as well for mine to work, I want to know where the reciever is on the car, I even bough new key fobs and still have to be 3 feet away even with new batteries.
Does anyone know a great place to buy new key fobs ? I made the mistake of going up to my dealer to see how much they would charge for a new one and they told me $159 for the key fob and another $89 for programming. If I can find some place to purchase them, I'm sure I can find somewhere on the internet as to how to program the thing....I'm a computer engineer...I think I could figure it out....any tips ?
holly uber expensive batman. that is just crazy high. you can do it yourself. Im pretty sure there are directions on here. I dont know how to do it right off the top of my head but its some combination of button pusing and your key in your car to program it. I read how to once. Ill try and find it but I dont know how much luck I'm gona have since im about to go to work. I'd see if you can ebay the fobs
I got my key fob off ebay for 35 bucks, but mine is a 4 button deal and its for a 97 gp gt so I was able to program it myself.
I went to the dealership here in town and they charged me 69 bux. then 40 bux an hour to program but it only took the guy like 15 minutes so he only charged me a grand total of 82.33 after tax. order one from O'reilly's or something. In the back of your user manual, you can order the GM book with exact details on your GP, better than chiltons or the other books too. Sorry to not mention, but i live in Grand Forks ND, and our dealership is named Rydell's...cheverolet buICK and gmc now.

Might sound dumb but try this. While you're walking to your car from a distance you KNOW it won't reach, put the fob up to your chin while you press the unlock or trunk button.
report back with your findings please ;-)
BTW, I do this every day. I can start my Avalance from over 100yds
well, i would be happy with 10 feet, im just a few weeks away from buying a nice 2 way system if i cant figure this out. i nearly have to be at the car door for the fob to work, and it seems worst than before, even with a new battery.
Try the following two url's:

Amazing Car Remote Mod! - YouTube
Kilroy, I saw that in this thread - http://www.grandprixforums.net/incre...nge-50164.html
I'm not sure where I would solder and that thread is saying someone was trying that wasn't going to work (referring to your 2nd link)
2 year old thread...
But I'll respond!

Having the same problem as everyone else. Have to be right next to the car for remote to work. Replaced battery, did not help at all. Solder joints appear solid on the circuit board.
clean the inside of the pad buttons with rubbing alcohol and a Q tip and the board where they make contact.
ebay has new fob pads as well for about 5 bucks.
the pads buttons are painted with a metal paint that wears off. gluing tin foil to the fob buttons can help, or foil tape also works, and sticks good.
