so for some reason one of my memphis 5 1/4's blew today at medium volume... powered by memphis M class 200w amp... other 3 channels had of course my other 5 1/4 and memphis M class 6x9's to the other 2 channels... what could have caused this... i ve had the volume turned way past where it was when it blew.

Question one: What is the rated RMS wattage of your tiny 5.25" speaker.

Question two: what is the rated RMS wattage of your amp at the nominal impedance of your 5.25" speakers.

If the answer to twice part one is less than part two, you blew it up because you put too much power to it.

Would you mind checking on the amp for the exact model number?

Yeah if you were clipping your amp its possible. I'd get some 6.5's to replace them. Louder and higher power handling.

get some wood, cut it so it'll be able to be bolted to the holes for the plastic mount for the 5.25" and then cut a hole for the 6.5". Bolt woofer to wood and that to the door and viola.

Wtf does that have to do with anything? The term would be frequency, and the frequency of what? If he had a high pass filter on, he'd be okay. But who even knows if he has subs.

Do you know what clipping sounds like? If not, it might be worth finding out because as soon as its clipping, you're just going to fry the next speaker you replace it with.

How exactly did it blow? Try pushing down on the cone evenly on all sides and does it feel like its scratching? If so, you might as well cut the surround and the spider and pull the cone and former out to take a look at the voice coil. If its burnt or part of it has come off, you definitely gave it too much power.

Note you WILL destroy it by doing that.

I know about pushing on the cone to check for blown/burnt coil... i checked that right after it blew... it sounds clean... no rubbing/scratching.

Take it out and check the leads, and then hook it up to an amp you know works.
