I have very little knowledge about cd changers but I am wondering if only certain ones will work with a stock head unit or if they all will work any help would be much appreciated!!!

Not sure if this car came with it, but a Bose system with a trunk mounted 6-disc changer would be the only option.
In other words, your head unit would have to support it as well even if you had the cd changer.

Actully I believe it was a 12 disc factory, never heard of a 6 disc for the 97-03s...
I have a BOSE system with AM/FM Cass 7 Band EQ and it had no CD player but the plug in was in the truck. I got a Delco 12 DISC CD Charger out of a 97 GP and it plugged right in and worked fine.
