Hi,
I don't know what's going on. 2002 Grand Prix GT is having troubles starting and running so I decided to check the codes. I have never used the device on that car before but it works fine on my BMW. The device is a OBDLink CI.
Here's the issue:
When I plug in the OBD device to the car, it powers up and performs the self test fine. When I go to connect to it from my laptop, the device finds that the network on the car is ok, but it won't communicate with it. The Tx light comes on but the Rx light does not. Eventually it times out saying that there is no communication with the car.
A little more on what is wrong with the car:
It was starting funny for about 6 months. As soon as it started the rpm would jump up to almost 1000 right away. It would drop right down to the point that it would either almost die or would die altogether. Just lately it has been getting worse to the point last night when i would start it it would idle fine for about a minute or so and then just die.
Once it was idling smooth, if I tapped the gas pedal, it would stall for a second then rev up. It would do that until I got it going about 2500+ RPM.
Overall, I think it might be the ECM that is shot. I can't think of why else the OBD port would not be working. I checked a bunch of fuses but they all seemed ok. There were some instances online where other cars had a similar problem and it was fixed by a fuse, so that is where I started.
PLEASE HELP!!! I would like to fix this myself but if I can't find a solution quick, I will have to take this into the shop. And I hate paying $$$ just to be told it was something simple!
