hey guys i was over at best buy and had my eyes on the new pioneer cd/mp3 car stereo. i was more interest for the model: 7900 and 6000ou. i love the blue neon display which will match up with my blue gauges lighting perfect. my question is i like the 7900 model, but it's little pricey where as the 6000ou is $100 cheaper. the 7900 model probabl have more features than the 6000ou, but i probably won't be using all the features. basicly all i want is a nice head unit with cool display that won't put a hole in my pocket. anyone that are up to date with stereo stuff help me out here? should i be cheap and get the 6000ou model and save $100. i think both of these stereo have the same display, but the other one might be little more adavance. i'm not sure.

Well to start off the 7900 is last years model that is actually replaced by the 7000bt, and the 6000 is the current years model with not only an ipod connection, but also a usb connection for generic mp3 players, flash drives, etc, etc. Both are great units that have pretty much the same capabilities and specs.

The biggest difference is the bluetooth is built in the 7900, but it doesn't work very well (it makes you sound like a 5 year old girl) but the 6000 actually has the capability to be bluetooth compatible you just need the external box for it.

James (GeddyLee) on this board actually bought the 6000 and he likes it, maybe he will help sway you one way or another.

i have the 7900 and love it. chose it over and eclipse deck that i demoed and it runs my system VERY nicely. the bluetooth is ok as long as you put the microphone in a good spot and it isnt blocked by anything. i use it alot and the bluetooth audio option is awesome and has excellent sound quality.
All that work and all those mods mean nothing if your ride isnt clean

Yes I can comment on it. Two words.............BUY IT! I have nothing but praise for it. Its a pretty high wattage headunit (25w x 4 I believe) and the EQ and its custom setting levels are insane and the ability to customize the sound past the EQ is unbelievable.

I looked at the 7900 but Bluetooth is not something I need. The 6000 has the optional connection for the add BT from Pioneer IF in the future I want it. The HU already has the BT controls in it, so you are good to go there.

As for the USB reader, its unreal again! I use 2 4gb Thumb Drives to power my music. I dont have a fancy Ipod or anything. This thing just take a USB key loaded with all your favorites and you can keep them in their own seperate folders and the 6000 will rip through them in literally seconds. I can plug in my 4gb drive fully loaded, and it might take literally 10 seconds to read the entire thing before it starts playing. And that 10 seconds is an exageration, its more in the 5-10 range to be honest.

And when you pull the key out and switch it another and then go back to the original USB key, the 6000 REMEMBERS what song you were last on and starts from there! AMAZING! Gotta love that!!

As for the dial thing, some have commented on its bulkiness, and I wont lie it is bulkie, but its sooooooooooooo easy to flip through things as compared to moving your hand all over your HU. I am quite use to it now without any issues. And the "entertainment" feature allows to select from a varity of standstill or moving backgrounds to play with. I personally like the full screen EQ one.

And the HU easily pops off for easy grab and go. And to reattach is a breeze. It uses a magnet basically to reconnect but the face plate WONT come off if you are thinking that. I have tried it

You really cant go wrong with the 6000 or even the 7900, but like I said at the beginning the Bluetooth feature didnt catch me. Its so good I dont even carry CDs in my car anymore! I dont think the CD player is ever gonna get used unless someone has a CD they want to listen to

I give it 5 out of 5 on the Geddy scale

I have an old DEH 8400 and its been great to me. People think its a new system and its old. I have no complaints about pioneer head units. I dont think you can go wrong.
This one was my 3rd gen for me. I want to upgrade for all the new features as James listed, but dang I hate to drop the cash for one when my current unit is still aok LOL. After reading this thread I may have to reconsider now. Thanks James! ha ha

    You're quite welcome David

And with the price drops on the 6000 even since I bought it, you really aren't dropping that much cash into it. Heck you could go on FleaBay and get one there for even cheaper than Crutchfield or Best Buy. But I went the Best Buy route and ate a bit more money for reliability* and ease of return and the extended warranty

Yeah, Id go with best buy too. I have already dealt with an ebuy return issue, arrrrrrgggghhhhh
I plan on checking out the price on one soon. I have summer plans to upgrade and customize my stereo system. I will buy things here and there until I have everything I need. Then its experimenting time with fiberglass

Oooooooooooo what kind of experimenting are you gonna do with Fiberglass? I am quite curious to know!!!

Like you, I am slowly piecing together my stereo. I got the HU first, then I got my Memphis Audio 6x5 front speakers, then my Infinity 6x9's and soon I will be getting my Inifinity 4" speakers to complete my rear deck, and I have a Subzero nonported case with a 12" Punch in it waiting for me in Wichitah* KS, and after it is going to be the complete stereo rewire and add a 300w HiPhonics Amp for the Bass Cabinet and then 4 Channel HiPhonics for main incar speakers. And lastly my Humont HU bracket to finish things off

It is a slow process indeed.

As for Fleabay, it is a luck of the draw with dealers on there. I know some do sell original stereos and others sell refurbs, but you have to check the ads and send them questions about their product and check their feedback before just bidding on one or using the Buy It Now feature.
