Me and my friend are putting new speakers in his grand prix. Would the best way to replace the rear speakers to hook the new 6x9s to the wires that went to the stock 4in mid range speakers.

well on the 97-03 you have to take the whole backseat apart to get the speakers
should just take the 6x9 out and put new if and then do the door speakers
also put more info as that would help
like aftermarket deck what other mods?
there is a thread about rear speakers
http://www.grandprixforums.net/f41/r...ers-10313.html
in there should detail what i did
but heres the rundown
-seat out
-speakers out
-desoldered factory connector
-attached to new speaker
- reassembeled
-enjoyed lol
and yeah dont just do the rears, do the fronts as well you can tell the diff
Are the stockers Bose and hooked up to the amp? The amp runs an odd ball ohm. If you have an after market deck run a new set of wires from the deck back to bypass the bose amp. They will sound better and be easier to control the volume on.
Well the install is done we had front speakers too I was just curious about the wiring configuration for the rears because he has the 6x9s and the 4in's in the back so we hooked the 6x9s to the factory wire that was going to the 4in speakers and it sounds fine. The front speakers we replaced we just had to slightly modify the plastic bracket because the speaker was a bit larger. But all said and done even with the stock head unit it sounds great....and I'm 98 percent sure he does not have the monsoon or bose I didn't see an external amp and there isn't any indication of their name being on the system like in my 04 grand prix.
