Hello all. Been a while since I have come to the forums to gain some knowledge lol. I'm here for some opinions and help on new speakers for my 2003 GP SE. I have one correctly working speaker right now. Both fronts have torn surround around the whole outer dia. of the speaker frame, and one of the rears just doesn't work for some reason. I'd like to maintain the OEM sound coming from the OEM speakers if I could. I have used 3-ways before but they seem to lack lows a bit for me, so I was thinking of using a 2-way speaker. I have a factory head unit, no sub. Just want to upgrade speakers. I have come across Alpine SPE-5000 for the front and SPE-6090 for the rear, keeping me around $100 for the pairs. Any thought or opinions would be appreciated as I am not too savvy in the audio field here. Thanks.

For the most bang for your buck I'd go with some JL Audios. They put out a decent sound and won't break the bank. They are a good middle of the road speaker IMO
    1999 GTP...stock for now
    2007 Suburban...far from stock
1991 GMC Dually...74k original miles. Work in progress. Far from done.
1977 C-10 (my baby)...too many mods to list

That or check out Polk Audio speakers. I put these in my boss' 98 F150 with a factory radio and the difference is night and day and didn't break the bank.

If you haven't already check out Crutchfield for compatible speakers to make sure you get the ohm and sizes correct, especially if you have the Bose system.

I don't have the Bose stereo, just the low end head unit and Delco speakers they install at the factory for the SE model Grand Prix. Are the factory speakers 2-way speakers? There are so many reviews of different types of speakers so to know which speakers will work the best with the stock low end head unit and have a comparable sound is difficult.

the stock speakers are one way basic woofers. depending on the system you have, in the rear desk the 6x9 are "woofers" and the 4" are the midrange / tweeter. You can basically install any good speaker of the same size and get a great upgrade in sound quality. All the crossover is done in the small amp under the dash. if you buy form crutchfield they will provide factory plug in adapters, you attach to the speakers by terminal or solder and its a direct plug in to the factory harness.

The fronts are 5.25 in size, i'm assuming the same "woofer" style you are mentioning. Like I had mentioned, I don't have the Bose system, so this crossover from the amp is non existent. I've always purchased 3-way speakers in the past for upgrades, but was curious on the 2-way speakers as a 3-way seemed to lack the lows I was enjoying in the OEM crap speakers.

Well I ended up going with Kickers (the DCS or DSC ones). 3-ways for the rear, and 2-way in the front. These sound very crisp and clear, and they pound pretty good. I didn't hook up the factory door pillar tweeters. Honestly I figured the upgraded front speakers would just provide overall better sound and drown out those little things. Overall I am happy with my upgrade. Installation was a breeze, other than having to remove the whole rear seat and rear deck panel.

glad it worked out, you've discovered that any speaker is better than the stockers.

I may upgrade the head unit in the near future. I'm kind of tired of compact discs and using a bluetooth FM transmitter to listen to music. The LCD bulb went out a while ago, and the light behind the 1 and 2 buttons went out. So slowly my dash is dimming lol
