    Hi,

I installed a new Head Unit in my 2006 Pontiac Grand Prix (a Sony WX-900BT), and used the proper adapter, the PAC RP5-GM11. Everything is working great except for the steering wheel controls. I set the radio select switch on the adapter to 8 (the correct setting for sony), then connected everything and plugged in the 3.5mm SWC cable into the SWC jack on the back of the head unit. When I press my SWC buttons, the programming light blinks, indicating that the adapter is receiving input from my steering wheel controls; however, my head unit will not recognize that any buttons are being pushed!

I have even tried reprogramming the adapter as per instructions in its manual, and I have attempted to register buttons using the SWC registration protocols in the head unit (which always just timeout because the HU doesn't register any input).

Does anyone have any idea what to do?

    Thank you

there are two places to plug in a 3.5mm plug on that headunit you should be plugged into the blue one. The red one is for a microphone. Just make sure you are plugged in correctly. Thanks for your participation in this experiment.

I knew I forgot to mention something. Yes it is plugged into the blue SWC jack. The mic is plugged in the red microphone jack and is functioning correctly. The SWC jack is pushed in as far as possible into the blue jack (it did not make a click, if that's pertinent, but I don't think it's supposed to).

    What experiment?

I had a similar issue with a new head unit I bought last year. Bought the rp5-gm11 just like it says, hooked it up just like it said, blue to blue, blah blah, didn't work.

I pulled it out a few times and tried to fix it. Eventually i just gave up and now i deal with it. No biggie.

Amazingly, the radio still works great, even without steering wheel controls.

Try unplugging the power from the vehicle to the RP5-GM11, setting the dial to 7, plugging back in and pressing and releasing the programming button one time and then waiting seven seconds for the LED to flash 3 times and test again

    nox,

I will give that a try when I get home. Are you speaking from any experience? You certainly understand the system programming.

Partially. Downloaded the manual online, read it, then started searching other forums and owner groups seeing what other people have done who have the same issue you do...

Some days at "work" I sit at a computer and do literal 0.

Thank you nox! That fixed it. I'm surprised that PAC has their dial settings incorrect in the manual, oh well.
