Can you swap the faceplate on the factory radios without reprogramming them? I have an 06 with monsoon and faded buttons. I found a great deal on a used unit with good buttons. Can I unclip the front section and not need a reprogram?

I took my monsoon changer apart in a thread in this section. If the faces are exactly the same, connection and all (pin vs cable), you should be able to just swap the buttons.

Not sure if it'll lock or not swapping the face. It'd be good to know if you try it!

I read your thread. I took the faceplate off by the four screws and four clips last night but that's as far as I went. You went a lot farther. Would it be easy to just swap the buttons that way?

Yeah, you're almost there. You just need to take off the knobs, then these little screws.

Then the green board comes off. Just set that aside. Between the two round holes you can see white/gray around the Track button. The whole thing comes out, one at a time maybe or pics so they don't get mixed up/upside down.

Thanks. Got the donor board apart already. Waiting for my Matco guy to show up so I can get the right socket. I am not taking a pair of pliers to my board.

Good idea. There's a couple spots the tracing could be easily damaged.

Those tiny screws are pretty high pitch. A turn and a half, they should be out.

I took a pair of pliers to my board. Matco didn't have the socket, but I have a sweet pair of Knipex channel locks so it got done. Everything works fine.
